A Sure Sign That You Did Not Fix

The Water Leak in Sacramento

I get an opportunity to see plenty of water related damages as a general contractor in the Sacramento area. Damages caused by water can come in many forms and the source of the water varies. Much of the work that I see is after the repair has been done by others.

Occasionally, I am asked to clean up the repair area long after the repair has been completed by others.

sacramento leak not fixed. When looking at a cleanup project in Sacramento today, there were a few signs that maybe the water leak had not been done correctly. It’s not rocket science to understand, you just need some common sense to see that the leak is not fixed.

  • A repaired water leak will not continue to stain the drywall.
  • A water leak that is fixed does not need a stain sealer sprayed to it.
  • A repaired leak will not cause the drywall to get wet.

I saw all of these today and I am convinced that the repairs that were done in this Sacramento ceiling were not correct and in need of further repair. As a general contractor, I am qualified to make these corrections if needed.

LOL, Tom.  Yes, you need to get to the source.  That's what will stop it.  Funny.

I once had someone say to me that the new staining (bigger than the first one that was repaired) was "just residual water."  Umm...

Tom -- those three clues were very convincing that the previous workman did not properly complete the job.

I get called to clean it up, if it's more than that, the owners tend to go with someone else who will make it pretty Michael. Then it stains again....  :)

It sounds so obvious doesn't it Debbie? Am I asking too much to expect others to have the same reasoning?

Hahahaha

I've heard the "residual moisture theory" Jay. I have to ask, why wasn't all that residual water removed to create a dry environment?

The onsite maintenance staff usually don't have the experience of seeing these things on a regular basis Steven, they just remove and replace. It's easier!  :)

Oh boy, hate to see stuff like that. I don't understand how anyone could call that repair complete. Any job worth doing is worth doing well - right?

Looks like a big old gaping wound.. :(

Wow... I wonder if that contractor has a refund policy... I suspect a very bad yelp review is his future.

Well if it was a diy job then this homeowner better learn a lesson from it.  If they did hire someone to do the repair, they must be pretty upset that it wasn't done right!
