$200 to Paint a Deck Ceiling and Other Handyman Nightmares
Are honest working people NON-EXISTENT?!?
I just went out to a rental property and had a guy tell me, straight to my face, that he would paint -- using a sprayer -- the ceiling on the back deck patio cover for $200!
The underside of this deck covering needs a little love ------------->
What was he smoking?!?
I looked at him and said, "So, if I paid $20 an hour, you're telling me it would take ten hours to complete this job? Or $100 an hour and the reality of 2 HOURS."
It would take 30 minutes to tape it off (prep) and since he was using a SPRAYER -- an hour to paint . . . tops!
He looked at me and said, "Well, I have to tape it off, put up plastic . . ."
Who can't do simple math? Not me! An UNSKILLED manual labor job at $20/hour is about right, no?!?
I immediately felt the piss on my leg and I knew he was just about to tell me it was raining.
And to top it off, when he was "quoting" me, he was trying to hussle FREE PAINT -- telling me it would take 3 gallons of paint! A gallon would have been plenty. He wanted to take TWO gallons with him as a bonus I guess.
OH MY GOSH! What is wrong with people these days?
I have other things that need to get done at that rental and it's all UNSKILLED stuff . . . you know, pulling weeds, putting down weed barrier cloth, edging around the lawn, hauling some former tenant left trash out. I figure it would have been about a $350 job for about a 2 day gig. I would supply materials . . . maybe a tip. That's more then they'd get at Labor Ready.
Hmmmmm . . . I guess some people think I'm rich, and/or their manual labor skills are worth $100/hour. Dumb ass didn't graduate high school I reckon.
