1) Neutralize Your Home
If you have a vibrant hue, consider painting it a neutral shade. Avoid non-mainstream colors and wallpaper or borders.
2) Complete Needed Repairs
Ask your Realtor what repairs need to be done before it goes on the market, this will save you stress and money in the long run. Make safety repairs like uneven or cracked cement on the front walk way, repair loose railings, and replace any broken windows or window panes that can raise security issues.
3) Minimize Clutter
Buyers will see your homes potential if it is organized! Go through and get rid of anything you don't need or that isn't going with you to the new home, or have a garage sale. Make it look like a model house. Pack away distracting items that are not necessary for the sale like toys, out-of-season clothing, and everything on the kitchen counters. Limit the amount of furniture in each room.
4) Create Curb Appeal
Don't let an overgrown landscape distract from your home's beauty, cut and trim all your trees and bushes. Arrange outdoor furniture in a welcoming way and add potted flowers to make it welcoming. Clean and paint doors if necessary, as well as keep a well-groomed lawn. Remember, this is the first impression!
5) Update Your Kitchen
The kitchen is often referred to as "The Heart of the Home." If necessary, change out handles and knobs with brass or silver finishes as those tend to be most popular in homes today. Paint chipped or outdated cupboards. Keep appliances, top of the refrigerator, handles, dishwasher, oven, and floors clean! Reduce clutter to maximize the appearance of workspace.
6) Add Finishing Touches
Reduce or take paintings, belongings, and family photos off of the walls so buyers can see themselves and their family in the home. Fill in holes and cracks to restore the walls to their original state. Clean and vaccuum the carpet, scrub the walls and trim, and prick up all rooms.
