Oh, it's a beautiful day in West Chester, Ohio! Today is the day! The long-awaited grand opening of the West Chester IKEA is today. Ikea sits just off the Union Centre Blvd. exit - just north of Cincinnati. My buddy and I packed up our shopping gear and arrived at 8am. Folks had actually camped out since Monday to be the first in line! Now those are some dedicated fans!
8am worked just fine for me. The line was kind of long but not as long as I thought it would be, frankly. The IKEA organization and staff really went all out to welcome the guests and to keep us happy while in line. There was a stage and a large screen broadcast for those of us who couldn't see the stage. Choirs sang, sports team mascots entertained, they even had a lady walking around with a tray of Swedish Meatballs. At the entrance they had a band to welcome us!
The employees paraded through the stage area and did some dancing for us. We were very impressed at how fully charged the employees were. Great job, guys!
We were lucky enough to receive a gift card at the door. I fully expected to get a "buy one get one free hotdog" card (I'm not the luckiest girl in the world). It was so fun to find a $10 gift card in my little gold envelope. Thank you, IKEA!
I was surprised to find that my total at the register was $15 and some change (I did already use up my gift card today). I ended up buying a plant for my bathroom, a nice mirror for the bathroom of a rental property, and some sheers for my daughter's bedroom. Not too bad for under $25! I decided not to buy too much while it was crowded - IKEA is here to stay after all! And I think I have a new addiction....
We were VERY impressed with the IKEA company. The employees were dedicated, full of energy and seemed so happy to be there. The store was fabulous! Kudos to you all!
