I have put off creating videos- for years... About 4+ years ago I bought the Flip Mino.... loved it... updated it to the more expensive HD version... and then, of course, they became passe... I also found they were hard to hold steady and so my videos would suffer accordingly. Also, the visual detail was not as good as I would have liked... I put my video career off to the side yet again. We are all so busy that I find if it doesn't come to me straightaway... I just do not have the time to pursue it!
Active Rain had a video contest last year that I used the Flip Mino yet again, and then along came a video contest this past August on Active Rain. It was time to try again.
Last year, I bought a wonderful camera- the SONY HD AVCHD DSC HX200V Cyber Shot... It was both a camera and video camera..I first had to learn (after the video would shut down after 9 seconds) that I needed to go into the controls (menu) to allow continual recording. Phew- that was easy... I bought a tripod too, but I also found that when you move a tripod that can be jerky if you do not do it properly... However, the camera is heavy, and perhaps because of that, I also found that I am able to hold it steady (enough)...
I also discovered that I have on my computer a wonderful video editing program - Movie Maker.. There are so many great editing programs out there.. any one will suffice... Once I have created my video with my Cyber Shot (simply attaching the camera to the computer, and after I had downloaded the video editing software called "Play Memories at Home" I am then able to click onto each recorded clip, edit it, and then link the chosen clips together. One trick I learned was to delete each original clip after I edited it, just leaving the edited version. . This saved myself some confusion in not knowing which clips I had edited after the fact for once edited, the order would jiggle and re arrange and you have to make sure you find the highlighted clip that you have just edited... The original clips are still on the disc within the camera so they are not deleted, just not on the program. I noticed after a while that once edited there would be a tiny blue pencil emblem on the clip depicting the edited version.
Once I had saved the little video, I then import it to Movie Maker, and I can then create a title, captions, credits, whatever I want.. All good... Importing music from I-Tunes is a breeze, and my next step will be to add audio... I LOVE IT!
As my blog post title states, if I can do it- anyone can! When is the next contest?
Westchester is GREAT!
