Don't Replace Those Smoke Detector Batteries!

If you live in Addison, Texas, the Addison Firemen will replace those batteries for you, and at no charge.Addison Firefighters

There are so many amenities provided by the Town of Addison, like the first class Addison Athletic Club, the superior "can do" attitude of the town employees, and the Addison events (Kaboom Town, Taste Addison, Oktoberfest to name a few), but if you want just one more, here it is: Addison's Fire Department annual smoke detector battery replacement program.

To participate in this annual event, call the fire department at 972-450-7228 to schedule a day and time in October. You must be home during the visit by the firefighters. Keep in mind, though, that 911 emergencies may cause a need to reschedule your appointment.

This is a FREE service provided to Addison residents. The fire department provides the ladders AND the batteries.

I missed taking advantage of this program two years ago. One day that winter, I was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of the beeping alert, letting me know the battery in the smoke detector had died. I won't let this happen again. I'm signed up for the free battery replacement in October.

Call today to schedule your appointment and take advantage of this Addison amenity!

Gary: I think October is fire prevention month, so this is appropriate.

In my house, they always go off around 2am!!  In our house in Richardson, we had extremely high vaulted ceilings in the master and the alarm went off. My husband would not let me call the fire department because he was certain they would not come out to change the batteries. Even though I called in the morning to confirm, he wouldn't let them come over and instead went and bought a huge ladder...

Many times in my house they went off around 2:00 AM too! Now I am curious about the timing, what could it be?

Lorrie-I'm noticing a trend here. Our batteries seem to fail in the middle of the night too. No fire department replacement here. We're on our own.

Lorrie, I have never heard of this service but it would come in handy at my house. Some of those detectors take tall ladders to reach.

Bahman & Wayne: I wonder if they're programmed to do that?

Debbie: Our firemen arrive on the truck, so they've got all sizes of ladders.
