Stowe’s British Invasion will take place this weekend! America’s largest British car show will feature between 600 – 1,000 classic cars. This 23rd annual event always takes place the third weekend in September in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. This year’s event promises to be spectacular with cars competing in 60 different categories.
Some of the models included will be Rolls Royce, Bentley Riley, Austin-Healy, Singer, Morgan, Sunbeam-Alpine, MG, Triumph, and my personal favorite, Jaguar.
Judging in the Concours d’Elegance competition (fancy parade) will be based on a 100 point system. Criteria for judging includes mechanical operation, paint, interior, woodwork, undercarriage, chrome, engine and authenticity. A minimum of 90 points is required for first place, 85 for second place and 75 for third place.
In addition to the car show, there will be a Tailgate Picnic Competition on Sunday with a vast array of delectable British fare. This is one of the best Tailgate Competitions in the United States. Awards will be given for ‘Most Elegant’, ‘Most Creative’, ‘Best Tasting’, ‘Most British’, ‘Most Humorous’ and ‘Best Costume’.
There will be a British Market featuring many products including motoring accessories, difficult to find spares, motoring teddy bears, British candy, regalia and exclusive designer clothing such as Barbour.
Ye Olde England Inn, recipient of the Vermont Inn Keepers Award, sports an authentic British pub atmosphere that will be a popular meeting place for enthusiasts.
If you cannot attend the event, perhaps you will see the cars driving past your house on Sunday morning at 8:30 when the cars will participate in a 70 mile scenic drive through the Stowe/Smuggler’s Notch area to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, winding roads, rolling hills and spectacular fall foliage before congregating back at the event field.
Stowe’s British Invasion will take place on Saturday September 21th from 9-5 and on Sunday September 22nd from 9 – 3 at the Stoweflake Resort field two miles north of Stowe Village at the intersection of Route 108 and Cape Cod Road.
General admission for spectators is $15 for a weekend pass or $10 for just Sunday. Children under age 12 are admitted free and proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
