Bar Harbor is Mount Desert Island’s largest vacation destination and home to Acadia National Park it is rich in history as well as rich in gorgeous views. Bar Harbor was a premier summer resort in the 19th century and home to some of America’s most powerful families—the Rockefellers, Ford, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Astor and Morgan families. Thousands of people visit Bar Harbor annually and we spend a week there every August. Acadia National Park is just breathtaking and is home to 1,532-foot Cadillac Mountain whose summit is the first place in the United States where the sunrise can be seen.

The sunsets on Cadillac are to die for as well...the views of Frenchman's Bay as the sun is setting is something to marvel at. This is an annual event for us...a not to miss adventure while we're in Bar Harbor, a drive up Cadillac Mountain...cameras in hand, and maybe a bottle of wine, cheese, crackers and folding chairs...a very romantic evening!

Acadia’s stunning mountains, lakes, and sea cliffs can be viewed from a number of vantage points all over the park. You can either drive on the auto loop road or bike and walk on the carriage roads which are closed to car traffic. Be sure to enjoy a pop over and some chowder at Jordan Pond House restaurant another favorite of ours.

Bar Harbor is definitely a special place to visit....we've put together a little virtual tour using some of our favorite photos ...we had so many we added extras...we sure hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Jay - just BEAUTIFUL!!  I've never been to Bar Harbor, but one of these days we'll make it there.  I've wanted to take a trip there for years, but we usually head in the opposite direction to Vermont which we love as much as you guys love the Maine coast.  Maybe living on the NH coast does that to us.......  ;-)

And you're right about Cadillac Mountain - I've read that a number of times.

Beautifully done - makes me want to go today!

Popham outside of Bath is where we used to vacation every year!  We loved it and miss it but the drive is about 7 hours for us.  These shows bring it all back for us.  We were at Thunder Hole and we have pictures somewhere.  If I ever find them, I'll send some along.  Great place to live - how is selling Real Estate there.  Maybe we'll come live by you!  Thanks for sharing these pictures with us. It brought back some very fond memories.

Hi Bob and Lisa, We have been to Popham Beach and it was beautiful. I'd drive 7 hours but it would be for about 5-7 days. 5 days is a long weekend. Leave late Thursday and come home Tuesday. We sell real estate in NH not Maine. I'm glad it brought back fond memories.

Thanks for stopping by.

Jay and Monika,

My husband and I "fell in love" at Bar Harbor a long time ago. We never had the chance to go back but definitely remember it as one of our favorite places. (It was very cold though:) But the air was noticeably clean and the views were breathtaking.   I for one will never forget Bar Harbor!

Nick thanks for stopping  by and yes we celebrated (hiccup) but we behaved ourselves. (hiccup) Thanks for the compliment.

Karen How sweet you fell in love. It's a great place to fall in love. Did you get a chance to go to the top of Cadillac Mtn. It is tough to forget Bar Harbor onc you've been there. You must go back. I know it's a long drive but well worth it for you. Maybe we'll see you up there. We will be there 1st week in August.

Karen,

Try and come up while we're there in August...it would be a blast.  We're actually leaving the last week of July and going to New Brunswick and then down to Bar Harbor for the 1st week in August.  There is so much to do in Bar Harbor and Acadia National park.

I was just mentioning this to hubby yesterday....And no I did not get to Cadillac Mt....We actually did not go out much that weekend:)

Hi Doug, we love it up there and we will be there July 29th until August 6th. If it weren't such a long drive we'd be there a lot more than just one week.

A gorgeous spot for sure!  I am very fortunate to be a Realtor based out of Bar Harbor, Maine.  I swear, just driving onto MDI you can feel the tension and stress melt away.  If that doesn't do it, than a rigorous hike up Dorr/Acadia/Kebo mountains will relieve the stress.  Although, your area in NH is pretty darn nice too!

Thanks Erica, we sure do love the Maine coast. We may be heading that way this coming weekend. Maybe Boothbay Harbor region.
