Global Vigilience, Global Reach, Global Power
The National Security Act of 1947 became law on July 26, 1947. It created the Department of the Air Force, headed by a Secretary of the Air Force.
Under the Department of the Air Force, the act established the United States Air Force, headed by the Chief of Staff, USAF. On Sept. 18, 1947, W. Stuart Symington became Secretary of the Air Force, and on Sept. 26, Gen. Carl A. Spaatz became the USAF's first Chief of Staff.
The mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win...in air, space and cyberspace.
Air and Space Superiority : dominate in the air and space which permits the conduct of operations as related to land, sea, air, and special operations forces at any given time and place.
Global Precision Engagemant: the Air Force can attack anywhere, anytime. The ability to hold at risk or strike rapidly and persistently, with a wide range of munitions, any target and to create swift, decisive, and precise effects across multiple domains.
Rapid Global Deployment: the timely deployment, sustainment, augmentation, and redeployment of military forces and capabilities across the planet.
Agile Combat Support: the ability to field, protect, and sustain Air Force forces across the Range of Military Operations to achieve joint effects.
ISR: Global Integrated Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) is the synchronization and integration of the planning and operation of sensors, assets, and processing, exploitation, dissemination systems across the globe to conduct current and future operations.
The Air Force bases these core competencies and distinctive capabilities on a shared commitment to three core values -- integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.
On a personal note; I was a proud member of the USAF for 20+ years...some of the happiest and most fulfilling of my life.
