These days you read that cities are growing and small towns are disappearing. Young people are moving to the cities to get a job. That is what I did 40+ years ago, so I understand that. But the best small towns have a lot to offer and retiring to one of them is appealing to a lot of folks, especially retirees.

Technology has greatly improved the appeal of moving to a small town. Today's Internet, Amazon delivering anything at all you want to purchase to your front door and great phone services makes you feel connected more than ever no matter where you live.
Some say small towns are safer. Feeling safe when you age is a plus.
Like to get outdoors and smell the roses once in awhile? In a small town just step outside your door. You will not get run over by a bus.
Been running in the rat race and feeling a little (or a lot) burn out? Living in a small town is at a more natural pace and you will not feel pushed in the back. Get rid of the stress living in a small town.
These days the best small towns offer cultural opportunities, learning opportunities, have some great medical facilities and community events of all sorts to made life interesting. Many small towns have senior centers.
Charming down towns and even some retirement communities are located in small towns. Small towns have some great traditions in parades, fairs and festivals, and other community events.
