Best Small Towns Draws Retirees

small towns draw retirees

These days you read that cities are growing and small towns are disappearing.  Young people are moving to the cities to get a job.  That is what I did 40+ years ago, so I understand that.  But the best small towns have a lot to offer and retiring to one of them is appealing to a lot of folks, especially retirees.

Advantages of the Best Small Towns

Small towns are affordable and that is worth something in  today's economy and also in our retirement.

Technology has greatly improved the appeal of moving to a small town.  Today's Internet, Amazon delivering anything at all you want to purchase to your front door and great phone services makes you feel connected more than ever no matter where you live.

Some say small towns are safer.  Feeling safe when you age is a plus.

Like to get outdoors and smell the roses once in awhile?  In a small town just step outside your door. You will not get run over by a bus.

Been running in the rat race and feeling a little (or a lot) burn out?  Living in a small town is at a more natural pace and you will not feel pushed in the back.  Get rid of the stress living in a small town.

These days the best small towns offer cultural opportunities, learning opportunities, have some great medical facilities and community events of all sorts to made life interesting.  Many small towns have senior centers.

Charming down towns and even some retirement communities are located in small towns. Small towns have some great traditions in parades, fairs and festivals, and other community events.

Don't give up on small towns.  Check out some of the best small towns.

Small towns are wonderful.  Moving from a dense D.C. suburban community to the country was the best thing I ever did.

However, home values are easily reduced when the cost of gasoline increases.  DANG!!

Our retirement home is on an island-pretty small. After awhile-even going shopping on the mainland is a chore. I worry sometimes, that as the outside world fades away-so will we.

Lenn, I bet that took courage to do the move.  Glad it worked out.

Barbara, you have the Internet to stay in touch, but I have heard that concern from others.

I grew up in a small town and I suspect I will retire here as well.  I like to visit a city, but wouldn't want to live in one.

Nice post Robert - I too live in a small town - and with easy access to Portland, Oregon - I feel that it's the best of both worlds. There's just a easier pace in a smaller community.
