PT 50, TREPAC and ABOR joined forces and welcomed Senator Kirk Watson from Austin at the Headliners Club this morning. Welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of PT 50 Realtors and vendors he spoke at length about the birth and ongoing progress in the much discussed hospital district and formation of the Medical School, to be built on the campus of the University of Texas.
Senator Watson enumerated about using a new playbook to acquire a Medical School at the University of Texas. It did not include relying on the state for funds.
In two years from his “10 goals in 10 years” speech Austin is making substantial strides in helping Austin be all it can be. “10 goals in 10 years” are as follows:
1. Build a medical school
2. Build a modern teaching hospital
3. Establish modern, uniquely Austin health clinics in our neighborhoods
4. Develop laboratories and other facilities for public and private research
5. Launch a new commercialization incubator
6. Make Austin a center for comprehensive cancer care
7. Provide needed psychiatric care and facilities
8. Improve basic infrastructure and create a sense of place
9. Bolster the medical examiners office
10. Solve the funding puzzle
Vickie Fullerton, RPAC Major Investors Council with TREPAC, spoke about the tremendous influence TREPAC makes to support property right for the consumers of Texas and the importance of our involvement. Our resouces are needed on an ongoing basis.
Emily Chenevert, Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations from ABOR, expressed what all is being done to protect the interests of our industry and the much needed support needed by all of us.
Paul Hilgers, CEO from ABOR, closed with their implementation of 5 visions in 5 years they are working on after taking lessons from Senator Watson.
