What's Wrong With This Picture?

What’s wrong with this picture?

With all the money spent on elaborate alarm systems linked to i-phones and screaming sirens that could wake the dead, one of the most common breaches of home safety is the open garage door.  Just because you are home or in the back yard or the pool does not keep you safe when this extra-large entrance to your home is left open for extended periods of time.  I takes less than 30 seconds for someone to exit a car, rummage through your garage or maybe even steal your car if the keys are readily available.  Even more frightening is the possibility of them entering your house if access to it is unlocked.  Get smart.  Close that garage door unless you are in the front yard and can see the opening at all times!

Great reminder it is a shame we have to think this way but protecting ourselves and our family should be at the top of our list.

So true - we get reminders from our local police that this is a common target of thieves.  And, doesn't that home with the closed door just look so much nicer?

Caring expertise...knowledge for you!

Very wise post...important to present that "closed" face to the street...we just get thoughtless in our busyness.

We make it easy. You make it home.

Very good advice to keep your garage door closed for security reasons. I have also seen HOA rules which state the door must be kept shut unless you are actively in/using garage. People should also keep their front and back doors locked for the same reason.

Hi Marnie, May I add an additional reminder. If you leave home with a second or third car left outside. Make sure you remove the garage door opener from the car in case they break into it. That way they can't enter the house from the garage.
