The Best and Worst thing about working for yourself....

By
Real Estate Agent with Remax First Realty II 0790808

There's an old saw and it goes something like this....

The best thing about working for yourself is that you always have a job.

The worst thing about working for yourself is that you always have a job.

And that's where we find ourselves this week. Grateful that we've got plenty of business to keep us in the black, but wondering when the next minute off is going to come. And, at the same time, dreading that next minute of quiet because who knows if it will last one minute or three months, which is what happened a year or two ago.

We always want to make hay while the sun shines, so to speak, and we're always grateful for the sun when it shines, but a rainy day now and then is a great way to recharge our batteries.

How do you find time to relax?

Wayne & Jean:

Yes, self-employment is one of those balancing acts that never seems to tilt in favor of R & R.  I schedule several blocks of "personal time" on my calendar during the week to take care of myself.  The business will be there when I re-engage.

Take good care of yourselves.

Linda

Team Zuhl-This time of the year I always block off Saturdays for football games and have a vacation planned for the Thanksgiving holiday. It keeps me motivated.

In this country the days of going to work every day for 25 years then retiring is OVER.  Yes, we all have to make hay while the sun shines and luckily for us the sun is starting to really shine like it did a few years back.

Good morning Wayne and Jean, I agree with your best and worst, but would add that, that employer does keep me employed, but not always paid that well.

Gratitude is how I cope with the crazy times and endure the slow times.  It's something like: thanks for the business, and thanks for the rest.  Once I gave up the desire to "control" my weekends or any given day for that matter, and began to be sincerely grateful for business how or when it came to me, most of the worry and frustration left.  Knowing that it's always in our power to say that we are not available at any given time, somehow makes even the crazy times a bit more fun.

When people ask "isn't it GREAT to be your own boss"?  I always let them know it IS great to "be my own boss" but it really sucks "being my own EMPLOYEE" cause there is no one else to DO THE WORK! :)

You nailed it, Wayne and Jean!

I've been "Independent" for 20 years.  I wouldn't trade it for anything... however, you must force yourself to take time off.    Although, as you mention, you don't want lots of time off, like during the Real Estate Crash.
