Some people call it brand others call it reputation. What do people think of when they hear your name? The following post by Erin Bates breaks it down into categories. These are the less than desirables and those we don't want to be like.

Over the last 11 years working in either the mortgage or Real Estate industries I have learned so much about the “world of business”. Each day there seems to be a new “tool”, a new “rule”, and a new “way of doing business”.
At times these are helpful and I am ready to jump on board … other times, not so much!

Above all else however, I have learned, your reputation precedes you.

If you want to know the NUMBER ONE way to grow your business … look in your mirror.
Are you presenting yourself in a professional light? Are you putting your best foot forward?

 

I like to break it down into a few categories …

 

 

RUDE/UNPROFESSIONAL – these are the folks that, frankly, you just can’t stand working with. They are rude and unprofessional. Whether it be someone who thinks they are better than the rest of us or they are not keen on working with others, this group always gives me a cringe! I would not be remiss in saying that I bet a lot of these folks do less business than those of us who are polite and professional.

 RUDE COWORKER

GOSSIPS / DRAMA MONGERS – man oh man, I have sure worked with a lot of these. This group of people just can’t keep their mouth shut! They flit around sharing their gossip, gathering new gossip from others, and then sharing that as well. You can’t trust them at all. I have found that most of these people are the first ones to say “oh, I hate being involved with drama! I don’t like to talk about others” – but they are the first ones to “chat at the water cooler”. This category of people, in my opinion, is even worse than those that are rude. The ultimate "phonies". They will spin words and build tall tales that work to break down the good reputations of those around them. 

 REPUTATION

 

 

IDIOTS!!! (ouch, harsh word, but  much deserved in some cases) – these folks just don’t seem to have any idea what they are doing. Their left hand doesn’t speak to their right and they would lose their head if it wasn’t attached! They usually end up dumping their work on others, blaming their mistakes on anyone or anything but themselves, and taking no initiative to improve. Not to toot my own horn, but, I work very hard to ensure that my performance stays in tip-top-shape. If I don’t know something, I ask, I learn, I study.

 REPUTATION

So what category do I try to stay in? The “un-rude, professional, non-gossip, no-drama, smart cookie” group!!! Be the best that you can be! Not only will your clients recognize it but so will your colleges. This is a small world and an even smaller industry – do it right the first time and keep your name in good standing!!!
