Powder Point, Duxbury

Powder Point, Duxbury

The Powder Point neighborhood in Duxbury has two main roads that encircle the peninsula. King Caesar Road runs down the south side to the Gurnet Bridge, and Powder Point Avenue runs back along the north side toward the center of Duxbury.

The Gurnet Bridge is often called the Powder Point Bridge, or even the Duxbury Bridge.   It's the wooden bridge that leads from the end of Powder Point to the Duxbury Beach.

Powder Point is entirely residential single-family homes. There are families here whose lineage goes back 11 generations to the Mayflower, Myles Standish and the Pilgrims.

Most of the homes on the water side of the roads have waterfront, or at least water views. Most of that water is on Duxbury Bay, but the western entry to Powder Point along King Caesar overlooks the Bluefish River inlet. There are several small roads that criss-cross the peninsula, leading to homes nestled in quiet wooded areas.

Gurnet Bridge, Duxbury

In 1892, the Gurnet Bridge was constructed. The half-mile expanse was purchased by the Duxbury Beach Association in 1919 and then sold to the town in 1941. A fire damaged over 200 feet of the bridge in June 1985, and repairs of that damage and other structural issues took the rest of the summer.

In the past few years, homes in this neighborhood have sold for prices between $900,000 to $3,350,000.

The Duxbury public schools start with Chandler Elementary School, then the Alden School, Duxbury Middle School and Duxbury High School. Like much of Duxbury, many of the residents are raising their families here, or have raised their children and still live here.

Here's a 15-second video of the Bluefish River inlet from King Caesar Road.

Brad, Powder Point sounds like a ski resort to me. I really like the way you describe the communities on the South Shore.  Thank you, by the way, for my virtual vacation to the South Shore.

There is something about the name 'Powder Point' that just seems so peaceful.  Love the photo of the grey house.  That's just my style.
