Firethorne Katy TX Hosting 21 ST Annual Triathlon
The 21 ST Annual Katy Triathlon will be hosted once again by the Katy Rotary Club and the event will be held in and around the Firethorne neighborhood in Katy Texas. This event will take place on Sunday September 29, 2012 and the starting time is 7:30 AM. Last year this competition was held during later October.
Firethorne is a Master Planned Community located on FM 1463 about 2-3 miles south of I-10 and this event has been held in Firethorne for the last five years. I have written blogs about this Triathlon several times in the past as it is a huge local event which all the proceeds benefit local scholarships.
This Triathlon will consist of a 13.7 mile bike run, 500 meter swim and 3 mile run. Individuals as well as teams are competing. There are several brackets of competitors including the most competitive where an individual would have had to place in the top three in another sanctioned event during 2013 in order to qualify. Firethorne Triathlon is USA Triathlon sanctioned and governed by USA Triathlon rules.
The Rotary Club took over this competition in 1998 and since then has raised a substantial amount funds used for college scholarship given to local area graduating seniors in Katy ISD.
I have been told by several individuals over the years this is a very exciting race and spectators are welcome to watch.As I have said in prior years I would advise leaving very early early as I am unsure where everyone will park. All attendees should be ready to walk a long way to observe the event.
