Mesa Arizona artist creates 9/11 mural to honor veterans and volunteers

Local artist Charlene Hardin, with help from local volunteers, has painted a mobile mural recognizing our veterans’ commitment to service for our country and our volunteers’ commitment to service projects in our community. The mural was first displayed during the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance and will be at other locations in Mesa during the next few weeks.

“Witnessing a community come together to turn the tragic event of 9/11 into a force for good gives me hope for the future,” Charlene Hardin said.  “It was important for me to create this mural because the 9/11 Day of Service represents the America I love:  a place where people from all walks of life come together in a spirit of creativity and caring to build up something positive for the world.”

The mobile mural is on display at the Main Library, 64 E. First St., now through Sept. 30 and at Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road, Oct. 1 through Oct. 21.  The mural has been created as a joint effort involving Charlene, City of Mesa Neighborhood Outreach and volunteers from Mesa’s 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance and will be on display through Veteran’s Day.  For a complete list of locations for the mobile mural, visit www.mesaaz.gov/neighbor.
