We’ve all heard the wonderful news about our employment levels – St Johns County was recently ranked 5th best place to live for “where the jobs are” by Money Magazine. The county has an unemployment rate of 5.5% as of May with state figures at 7.1%.

Where are these jobs, you may ask? Let’s see.. first the list of the established larger employers as of May 2013:

1) Flagler Hospital – 900

2) Northrup Grumann – 800

3) PGA Tour Inc. – 563

4) Ponte Vedra Inn and Club – 550

5) Ring Power – 500

6) Marriott at Sawgrass Resort – 500

7) Hydro Aluminum – 300

8) Ronco – 300

9) Tree of Life – 300

10)Tensolite – 255

(space does not allow me to describe what the functions of all these companies are but info is easily obtainable on, of course, the web!)

Now on to the NEW news about employment numbers:

Northrup Grumann is set to add 400 jobs with its 80million$ Hawkeye manufacturing plant expansion

2 G Cenergy (advanced clean technology company from Germany) is relocating here with 125-400 new jobs projected

Advanced disposal with 120 new jobs

Dr Horton Builders- new regional headquarters – 270 jobs

Rulon - 100 employees in 3 yrs

Walmart – new in Julington Creek – 95+

ALDI – international supermarket discount chain – possible location in new Seabridge Center, US1and 312 – TBD

And let’s not forget the new community of Nocatee which reports a 72% increase in sales from 2012!

There are so many more companies in the works to relocate or open here, the list is long!!

We always have to look to what is happening in Jacksonville, as it affects St Johns County in many spin-off ways. Jax Port is planning such a big expansion that it plans to quadruple its port volume over the next 10 years!! Move over Savannah and Miami!!

So what I’m getting at is, with a little bit of research, the good news can be confirmed and reaffirmed – the job market is looking good and maybe we can stop the rumor that you can’t find employment in St Johns County that enables people to work where they live and live where they work! And the upcoming 450th celebration of St Augustine’s founding is not hurting either!
