Points Schmoints! A Different Kind of ActiveRain Success Indicator!

By
Home Stager

This post was inspired by one written recently by Debe Maxwell in which she reiterated what has points

been said by many of us..... It's not about the points!

I not only agree but hope she shouts it to the rooftop.

When I began at ActiveRain it took me about 4 months before I realized that there were points involved.  I was enjoying reading the different posts here.  I marveled at the amount of information that was here….. for free.  No cards or forms to fill out.   No, subscribe here and you will receive endless emails.

Whether it was reading about how to market using postcards or how to embed a photo in a blog; how to recognize bad wiring in a home or choose the right paint color for your living room,  the community has always been a hub of freely given information.

But more than that it is the Exchange of information.  You can go to other blogging communities but nowhere to my knowledge can you find the active giving and exchanging of comments and opinions.

Don’t get me wrong, the points are motivators for all of us.  Most people in sales are motivated by winning or being #1 in something, or being the best.  Being competitive is part of what makes you successful.

However, the next time you’re evaluating your success here at ActiveRain or comparing how you’re doing versus someone else in your state, try looking at another indicator.
You can’t measure it with points, and ActiveRain can’t give them to you in one of their contests or challenges.

SEO aside, the best measures of success at ActiveRain are :

~the number of people you call “my ActiveRain Friend”

~ the number of people at AR you know you could call for an answer to a question.

~ the number of places you’ve “visited” via your AR friends

~ the number of AR members you turn to each and every morning to check in with them via their post.

Take another look at your ActiveRain success indicators….

Unlike points, you CAN take these to the bank.

AR Smile

I'm still amazed by the relationships we build everyday here on ActiveRain. I've never known a community like this one and I've never regreted joining. Never will.

In the beginning it was the quest for points (more specifically a very close back and forth for first place between me and an agent in my area) that got me motivated and to the point I'm at today.  However, now...I agree with you 100%....the exchange of info and trusted resources and friendships is what it's all about!

Yes, it's amazing how many friends and biz colleagues we have.  When I have a question (as I did yesterday), usually the first place I turn is my AR buddies.  - Debbie

Kathy-You make good points as, usual. That is a cool collage of ActiveRainers. This is a pretty inexpensive way to learn too.

I love it when people complain loudly about not carrying about points but then you look closely at their own profile to realize they are doing everything they can to grab points and some of them aren't honestly gained.

Kathy I like your collage!   I commented  on Debe's post too that points are just not relevant when it comes to measuring success on AR!  I smile when I read posts about people "climbing" to the top of their city, county, state, or planet ... who cares?  AR has WAY more going for it than points!

I, too, like getting points but am beginning to find Rainers whose blogs I just need to see.  Usually to learn something new.

Trisha- I agree.  There is nothing like it.

Debb- Glad you liked it.  Isn’t this a special place?

Laura- that they are.  Everyone here is unique.

Kat- points are like the carrot that drives us to do what we need to do anyway.

Roy- All of our points mean very little if we aren’t a part of this community.

Phil- I do understand that for those wanting to hit the 500K mark, points are important to them.  But it’s just so much more.

Hi Robert & Lisa- good to see you.  It’s like old friends that you love seeing.  Thank you for the birthday wishes.

Chris Ann- it really is like the morning paper, and it’s the first thing I check.

Ron & Alexandra- it was a highlight for me as well.  Thank you so much.

Gary- Oh, I’m a competitor, all right.  But I do love the community here.

Jay & Michelle- Glad you like it.  I wrote a post on how you can make one!

Bryan- we all like points…. we’re competitiveand that’s what makes us who we are.

Paul- we all enjoy reaching milestones.. it’s fun.

Suzanne- exactly.  There’s no other community like it.

Sharon- well said.  Points are still motivators for me, but you’re right, more than that are the people.

Debbie- same here… just like when I texted you!

Kelly- many thanks.  The educations here is phenomenal.

Janis- wise eyes you have!

Wayne- I know that I can find out information on not only matters of Real Estate but just about anything else.

Cindy- ah yes… the drive-by commenters are just some of them.

Maureen- It is interesting, isn’t it.  I couldn’t even tell you who’s #1 in our state.

Elise- keep reading… you’ll find even more.

Excellent post, Kathy!  I still think the point system is valid as a motivating factor for some but as you say, the benefits go WAY beyond that.

Kathy - You make excellent points about points:-)  I have marveled over the years at how valuable ActiveRain has been, and continues to be, as a wellspring of knowledge about real estate matters.  Points have come secondary to that knowledge, and the relationships forged within the AR community.

I think this is a struggle for most of us. While we are here to garner business, it's easy to get caught up in all the hype of being #1.

Hi Kathy -- I admit that the points are nice but not as important as the other reasons you have mentioned.   Nicely presented and definitely gold-star worthy.
