CHANGE! Yuck! I hate it! Windows 8! New contract revisions! New Listing/Buyer reporting software! New everything! When is it going to stop? NEVER!
My wife, Pam, wrote a new country and western song. The hook was: "Change is sooooo complicaaaaated! Oooooooh how I hate it!" Okay, enough already! We all know that change is inevitable but why do we resist it so? Because we do not want to go through the stress and turmoil of the change?
Change causes us to make a decision. Often the decision is to resist it! I flail my arms and I scream at the unseen demon that wants to upset my status quo! I dig my heels into the sand only to be dragged kicking and screaming into change!
If I could foretell the future, I would look change straight in the eye, and do a cannon ball off the diving board into the unknown. Unfortunately, I can't see the future, and I do not always have that kind of courage. But If I know that change is inevitable, then resistance may be the most futile of my decisions.
All of our sellers and buyers are also going through changes. For some it's new and exciting, for others it's with fear and regret, but all change comes with turmoil.
If by recognizing the turmoil of change, we can then help our clients work through it, we may be able to eliminate the sore arms from beating against the wind. We can help eliminate the sore throats and feet that come from kicking and screaming.
Their heels do not need to be blistered from digging into the sand and they do not need to suffer the bruises of being dragged into the future.
Embracing or readily accepting change allows us to evolve without the pain, wounds, and blisters that comes from resistence. The turmoil, yes. The inconvenience yes. The fear, yes. But, the journey is much more positive. Instead of fighting against the bit, we are expending our energies to reach new horizons. Inn the book aof Acts, chapter 2 verse 5, Jesus tells Paul not to "kick against the goads" Good advice!
Pam and I have been entreprenuers for as long as I can remember. We started in advertising and marketing but evolved into start up enterprises like insect repellents, shoe polish, predator urines, hunting scents and lures, meat snacks, website development, and grilling woods. After the sale of our last business we relocated to our beloved Hutchinson Island, Florida to start a real estate business. Hutchinson Island is one of the best kept secrets in Florida. We live in a great Colonnades community that is only minutes to the beaches, restaurants, fishing, and parks. If you have any questions about Hutchinson Island please let us know. We look forward to any excuse to go exploring.
