The story of Middletown begins in 1609, when Henry Hudson (thus the Hudson River) landed his ship on the Bayshore to trade with Indians. The Dutch and Baptists seeking religious freedom were among the first settlers. By 1664, Middletown Township was established and permanent settlement began. The area quickly became a popular place for homesteaders.

Middletown was the first town settled in Monmouth County and today at 41 square miles it's the largest township in the county.

Each of its eleven distinct neighborhoods-River Plaza, Lincroft, Oak Hill, Fairview, Chapel Hill, New Monmouth, Port Monmouth, Belford, Leonardo, Navesink and Locust, has its own zip code and personality, providing a diverse range of living experiences.

Middletown has the Garden State Parkway going through it and has commuter ferries to NYC, NYC is only 40 minutes away to downtown via boat.
