Rock hunting in Vernal Utah

I have been selling real estate in vernal for about 7 months. This weekend I went rock hunting for petrified wood outside Vernal. I was thrilled to find several nice piece. This area used to be tropical about 50 million years ago so it is possible to find petrified coral, palm tree wood, and even sea turtle shells. The area of Vernal is known for the amazing fossilized dinosaurs bones found there as early as 1909. My next venture might be hunting for garnets or plant fossils in the area!

You don't know how much fun it can be until you try it. I have several grandchildren that love rocks so they come along gladly.

We were out hunting rocks before all the snow was gone. We found some great peices of petrified wood. It was not fun taking it home in my suitcase though. They must get used to seeing about anything in my carry on bag.

With the good weather we should be hearing about some great adventures soon.

I hope so I need more information for my google earth map and gps information.

I just wrote a blog about Utah Picasso marble. It was really pretty. I couldn't find a very good picture online yet.

I saw some products at a gift shop and hope to buy one eventually for my collection since I can't go get it myself.

Tomorrow am going camping at one of the ranger stations that you can rent for $40 a night and will surely be rock hunting some. Taking the 4 wheelers and going on a search is just great! I cannot believe the variety of rocks in Utah, even in one location.

Sounds like fun! I wish I could take some of the flat red rocks home to Idaho for a patio.
