How about a shorter work week to help better the environment?

Compressed work weeks can be either 4/10′s or 9/8′s. A four-ten work week means that workers work 10 hour days for 4 days and then receive one day off All employees may receive the same day off, such as Friday, but they may be disbursed through the week so the company can remain open . A nine-eighty week is similar except workers work 9 hours a day for 9 days then receive one day off.
Reasons you should tell your boss about the compressed work week (other than that extra day off):
- Employees love it! They get a day off to run errands, rest, spend with the family, or take a long vacation.
- Both employees and employers get to save on energy costs and emissions. If a company closes for a day, not only does it save money heating, cooling, and powering the building, but employees save energy and reduce their carbon footprint by not having to commute to the office.
- Employers sometimes find employees are more productive. Since the workday is longer, it give employees time to complete work without distractions. Since employees enjoy the seemingly shorter work week, job satisfaction and productivity are increased, while employee turnover is decreased.
Who wouldn’t want an extra day off? Added bonus is it helps reduce global warming and ozone depletion. This was the most interesting lesson learned from studying for the LEED Green Associate exam this week.
