My home is so close to the Gulf of Mexico that on some mornings, I can actually smell the salt air when I walk out the front door! While in reality I live two short blocks from the shores of the gulf, there are days -especially foggy days- when I can smell the salt air as I get into my car.
Having grown up on Tampa Bay and then resided in Southern Germany for 17 years, it is good to be back 'home'. At this age, I cannot imagine living in a cold climate anymore. It was wonderful when I was younger and these 'old joints' did not have the aches and pains that come automatically as we age, but now in my 60's this is indeed where I want to be.
Living here in Crystal Beach is a treat in and of itself. Those of you who read my blog posts regularly know that I begin my days with a nice long walk along the seashore. It is this laid back atmosphere of Crystal Beach that I cherish. No hustle and bustle here! People actually take time to smell the roses.
Ronnie and I have a great home high up in the trees. Local building code demands that homes as close to the coastline as ours must have the garage under the living area. Our living area is 19 feet above ground. These heights vary depending on the area you live in and the age of the home.
Having a home with a living area that begins that high means our balconies are out in the branches of the Live Oak trees. Imagine the delight we have, sitting in the living room and watching the birds, including Osprey, and squirrels out in the tree branches just off our living room balcony.
I have lived in many locations during my lifetime and while I truly miss living in Europe, at my age this is where I belong - right on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Blue skies, sunshine and tropical nights are what keeps me smiling.
