Jacksonville Jaguars Field Improvements

Before I'm labeled "not a football fan", please be aware I grew up in Northern NJ, and cut my teeth on the Giants in the early 70's.

We tailgated in freezing temps, with snow on the ground, to a team that would lose on a regular basis.

I have had Jaguars season tickets in the past, and enjoyed the team, and I enjoy the game. I don't particularly care for spending 8 hours on a weekend to watch a team lose poorly ( and, yes, it is possible to lose well).

The field improvements outlined in this article include some pretty hefty investments, and the team seems to think they should be financed by our local hotel bed tax.  Seems our Mayor think this is a fine idea, too. The City Council still has to approve this proposal, and the owner of the Jaguars will be putting in $20 million (not a small part).

And, maybe this can help the fans enjoy the games until the team improves (snarky comment).

Unfortunately, no matter how much money is spent on the stadium, folks will still not flock to the games unless a better team is put on the field. You have an owner who is willing to spend, I would put more money into the team and its leadership.

Joe says it all. The money needs to be spent on quality players and coaches...then the wins and money will come.

I am not much of a football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey, rugby or track fan. Golf and soccer I can watch but even that is in small amounts of time. I would rather be reading..............

Hi Carol, Good luck to Jacksonville. I know what it means to the local fans. Here we have 2 local favorites, Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts, although since Payton Manning went to the Broncos, they are MY favorite.  And I'm a long way from Denver.

There will not be too many home team fans appreciating that field this year, but the visitors fans will rave about it and the sure win.

Good team or bad team, why should the taxpayers pay for improvements for a professional sports team of any caliber. Everything goes to those who have influence and we the middle class, what is left of it, always lose. Read a good book .

I understand that a major sports franchise can bring prestige and money to the host city, though, I don't understand why it has to be financed by the taxpayers.
