How Do You Know That Green is Hot?

Home with xeriscape GardenEloise Gift www.EloiseGift.com A Gift for real estate - A Gift for all seasons

You know green awareness is growing and that green is hot when hardly a day goes by without the arival of  email inviting you to buy green products or to participate in some green activity.

You know green is hot when your local newspaper carries reports of citizens paying attention and complaining when their city leaders are untruthful about their green achievements.

You know green is hot when you talk about a green home and your people around you know that you are not referring to color.

You know green is hot when a client calls up and asks about the availability of green homes in your neighborhood.

You know green is hot when a businessman in China, a country widely criticized for insensitivity to pollution, makes millions selling green air conditioners to countries around the world.

You know green is hot when you arrive in a city and see billboards at the airport promoting green. EcoBroker Logo

You know green is hot when the leaders of the city you live in set goals for green achievement.

Then you know it's time to switch to low flow toilets, consider buying that energy efficient car, replacing those old, energy-guzzling appliances, replacing the windows, and tightening the insulation in your home; time for our utility providers to lead the way in reducing the use of fossil fuels and exploring renewable energy sources; time to build energy efficient homes; time to recycle; time to switch to energy-saving light bulbs; time to decrease water usage, consider xeriscape gardens and plant trees; time to become an ecoBroker!

Green is HOT! I just hope the green movement is sustainable..........I'd like to see it continue and not become a fad.

Eloise Green is Hot because it is making more and more economic sense to go Green with the cost of energy today.  There is no better way to motive people than to hit them in the pocket book.

Excellent article--I'm so happy to see a post like this! What is the process for becoming EcoBroker Certified? I'm in the early stages of putting together a "Green Blog" myself and would love some pointers...

Hi Eloise - nice post, and what a really nice picture you used at the bottom of your post.  Green certainly is hot, and getting hotter all the time with more of us becoming much more aware of how we can do small things to make a difference.  Then those small things can leaad to more efforts, and who knows where we might end up??

Dena- I share your hope. I think the future of our planet depends on it.

George- Green makes economic sense and is indespensable to the future well being of our planet and the preservation of our quality of life. People are beginning to recognize this.

Brittney- Thanks for your comment. To become an EcoBroker, I suggest you visit www.ecobroker.com. You should find lots of pointers there and the opportunity to enroll. Do keep in touch and let me know of your blog and progress in becoming an ecobroker.

Ann- We are on the same page. I am already convinced the movement is far more than a fad. People are beginning to see and understand the effects and consequences of actions of our actions on earth.

Eloise!

YAY-Yeah! I know that GREEN is Hot...especially after reading your post...and it's gratifying to learn that in your neck o' the woods, a trend toward eco-savvy real property is surging as it is here in Asheville...

janeAnne- i am happy to hear that green is surging in Asheville also. From everything I have heard about Ashville and from your posts, it is such a lovely spot that green would be the icing on the cake.

Eloise - Thank you for a brilliant entry.  In the long run, this whole movement depends on the hope and good will of the people.  I seem to have turned some people off  by pointing out the negatives.  I do not apologize for that because I think in order for us to get this right we have to clean house from the get-go.  And in my humble opinion, there are not a lot of people who really walk and talk the way they should when they do 'green.'

Your point of view, on the other hand, is about hope.

And that is very important.

And most important for us green Realtors:  we need to grow a thick skin and not be afraid of the negative reactions (especially within the community).

Just because it says its green, well, as they say...scratch the surface and find out.

Best of luck.  Good reporting.

Hi Eloise - you give great information about what consumers can do to go green! Concrete examples like you give are the types of examples that will get the word out and demystify green for those who are just learning about green! Isn't this an exciting industry to be a part of?

03/17/2008 07:40 PM by Mary Bigelow, Renewing Your Life! (Ma's Marketing)

Douglas- Most important is that you are true to yourself. You speak from your own perspective, as you have a right to. Your opinion is yours and we may agree or disagree with you and that also is OK.  Thank you for your contribution. While we work to get green truly green, there are bound to be missteps. In some communities, well-intentioned people, impatient to achieve green goals, misrepresent their achievements. In others, some people may unfortunately have bad intentions and should be exposed. Yes. I do have hope that in the end we will mostly get it right. Our environment is too precious for us not to.

Mary- Thank you. I expect it to be a long, ongoing learning process that will take repitition and more repitition. I am pleased that you share my point of view.

This is so true...suddenly every where we turn GREEN is being discussed.  It's very exciting!

Diane- The awareness is building. How exciting indeed! We are having arguments and conversations - much better than indifference.
