BEAUFORT RECEIVES NATIONAL PRESS
(Beaufort, SC) - Southern Living readers choose Beaufort, SC as "best small southern town", the
New York Times thinks of Beaufort as "a haven" and Savannah Now considers Beaufort a "great escape".
After receiving more than 47,000 ballots, Southern Living announced winners in 15 categories of the
reader's choice awards. Beaufort won best small southern town, followed by Fairhope AL and Beaufort,
NC. "My favorite time to be in this pretty village is on a foggy morning in late winter. Wander through
the Old Point to watch the marsh come into focus beyond stately old homes. Long armed live oaks form a
leafy frame made ghostly by dripping moss," Annette Thompson stated. With her description, Thompson,
paints an elegant picture of our historic town. Thompson also recommends Blackstone's Café and St.
Helena's Episcopal Church as places to visit while in town.
The New York Times article, "The Old South to the Colonnaded Verandas", describes Beaufort as a town
with "scenic beauty, abundant wildlife, remarkable cultural resources and being near both Savannah and
Charleston and their own rich cultures makes Beaufort a tough spot to beat."
Savannah Now recommends Beaufort as a "great escape" and explains the city's charm which has led it to
be a popular tourist destination. Savannah Now mentions the John Mark Verdier house, the Anchorage,
Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, The Castle and St. Helena's Episcopal Church as must sees.
