Tired of Tuscany? Home staging to appeal to TODAY's Naperville buyers
Painting is one of the best things you can do when preparing to sell your home. Fresh paint using modern colors can transform almost any space, helping buyers to believe there is more value. This is how existing homes compete with new construction.
The Tuscan look was becoming main stream only a decade ago. Unfortunately one can be sure that when the bulk of the population has it, it’s already past its prime. Ochre, golden yellows, dark greens, rust, and tomato reds have quickly lost favor to the soft and steely grays. What’s a seller to do when they don’t have a huge renovation budget though?
Brining Tuscany into the new decade without a big budget
The key to a makeover without a big budget is understanding what still works and what’s gotta go. Today travertine tumbled tiles have been moved aside in favor of small glass tiles. Hardwood floors are preferred over tile, and light and bright is favored over rich deep color palettes. Replacing these big ticket items can be too much for many sellers. What is within their budget, however, is paint. Lots of it.
Paint is the great equalizer. It can bridge a myriad of design gaps into the current decade. While no major changes happened in this kitchen, the room suddenly has had a face lift. By focusing on the positive features of the room, like the stainless appliances and warm rich wood tones and combining it with more modern paint colors, the room takes on a completely different feel.
An updated home will sell for more money
Rather than remind potential home buyers that they may need to spend big bucks updating their home in not so many years by showing that their home is already a decade or more out of date, show off the best features of the home and focus on the life that is left in what’s there.
