The world comes to Salt Lake City Utah

General Conference

Twice a year (first weekend April and October) about 100,000 people come to Salt Lake City UT for the General Conferences of the LDS Church.

This weekend greeted them with cool mornings, warm Autumn sunshine with the grandeur of snow on the mountains.

Yesterday I took in the atmosphere of the 183rd Semi Annual General Conference.

Sunday Best (even on a Saturday) was the order of the day. Well packed trains, TRAX blue, green and red lines, on 10 minute schedules throughout the day.

I greeted Ukrainians, Russians, Germans, French, Italians, Brazilians, Africans, Peruvians... and even Australians (I am fluent in Strine). Visitors from many part of USA and Canada as well.

The Conference Center holds 22,000. Nearby buildings take some of the overflow, families have their places on lawns and surrounding gardens. Utahns can watch proceedings in their homes on television.

The Web carries all five two hour sessions on LDS.org. Twitter and Facebook were alive with Conference posts. The electronic age allows world wide sharing of the event.

Early attendees today will hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in its broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word prior to the morning Session of Conference.

Larry - this looks like quite the event.  People are lined up forever and they all have smiles on their faces.  I love it.  I had the opportunity to have a tour of the LDS chuch in SLC when I used to travel to SLC about once in month in the ninety's.  Very impressive.

Belinda - sure was. sounds like a time for a re-visit. Place has changed in the time I have been here, especially the re-building of City Center. Lots to see and do. Then again, I haven't been in your State since 1982.

Suggested Larry! You covered the news like a top notch report. When it comes to Sandy, you're a terrific Ambassador. It must have been fun for you to greet the people from other countries and I'll bet you greeted your fellow Australians with a lump in your throat and pride. Your pictures and news coverage is awesome!!!

Patricia - all over until first weekend in April. I like the challenge of languages. Greetings in foreign languages usually open the way to dialogue. Similarly, learning a person's name and homeland breaks down barriers. The holidays also provide myriad visitors to Salt Lake City and environs. Like you, I enjoy my photography (been at it in excess of 50 years).

Larry,

50 years is a long time to maintain your passion. You're a man of many talents and you are gifted too. I wish I had known you when you lived in Lewisville. It would have been fun to meet you and your wife. You are very good with people. Your posts and comments even here on this post illustrates that too.
