The EPA has tightened air pollution standards...I can breathe easier already!  But most think it will be met with sharp criticism from health experts and some members of Congress because it conflicts with recommendations of two agency's scientific advisory panels.

The new EPA standard will lower allowable concentration of ozone in the air to no more than 75 parts per billion (the old standard was 80 parts per billion).  The science advisory boards said that it should be 60 - 70 parts per billion to protect our nation's most vulnerable citizens (elderly, asthmatics, children, those with respiratory illness).

While the decision seems to fall short of what is needed it nevertheless obligates nearly 50% of the monitored counties to make air quality improvement.

Most clean air advocates would call this a move in the right direction...I hope.  There are always compromises...political or otherwise.  But surely, this will be met with some criticism.

Please feel free to email your opinions...

And thank you for making me Your Orange County Real Estate Connection.

Every little bit helps, there are just too many agencies invloved in the decision making process.

It's a helluva lot better than when I was a kid.  I did not grow up in OC, but in the Dan Fernando Valley there were some pretty bad smog days back in the 70s and 80s

Oh yes, I remember all those bad smog days... was there for 20 years, until the mid-90's. I've been told that the air IS a lot better though...really??
