The Shut Down, Obamacare, and What is a Country?

I am perturbed by the Shut Down, but I do not like Obama Care and think it is a violation of the Constitution. I hope they unplug it soon.

I do not like the Government Shut Down, but see it as a legitimate tool for both sides to use in negotiating their position. It certainly draws people's attention to what is going on. Both sides then have to explain their position to justify the pain it is bringing to the people in this country. I think the Republicans are wise to fund everything but Obamacare. I think the Democrats must cringe when they explain not letting young children get cancer treatment and other such foolish moves; although it is certainly their legal right to deny services to needy people.

I find it curious how the government views what is critical and what is not. Apparently Military Golf Courses around the country are critical to keep open. But the PX for soldiers to buy food and household items are not. The one thing that seems to roll on (well more like stumble) is Obamacare.

The real outrage is the punitive attitude toward the American People by shutting down certain things like the WWII Memorial, make it hard for people to pull over and take pictures of Mount Rushmore, shutting down parts of the ocean to fishermen in Florida.

Now these acts actually cost more to enforce than to just leave the item open. The WWII Memorial is open air off the sidewalk, accessible 24/7/365 staffed or not. I thought the National Parks were self supporting? A man in the Blue Ridge Mountain rents space on Federal land to run his restaurant, although the road through the park is open Rangers have surrounded his establishment to stop people from coming in to it.

I understand that loans and other essential service may be delayed due to the shut down. I also see leftist groups that support the President have plenty of access to protest on public property.

These latter parts of the Shut Down reflect an interesting concept of Government – That people and their rights flow from the Government. We are not a Nation because of a government. We are a Nation of People that set up a Government to help manage some limited issues. To them our rights as a people flow from the government. This is a sad state of affairs. Does a lack of Government mean we should not be able to see that which belongs to all of us (like Mount Rushmore) – that we do not have rights. No it does not – our rights flow from God. No man can tell me not to look up and see the Natural beauty owned by all of us. No government should be able to shut down a proper legal business with a contract to be on government land – that does not interfere with this shut down.

During this Shut Down we should consider how many of these “Non-essential workers” are really non-essential and should be let go. We should also look at how much is dependent upon the Federal Government and move to free people from having to depend on the Federal Government for these things.

I love my country and I believe that God has given us a wise Constitution – I believe our President is a wanna be Tyrant – but he is not the only one. There are too many in both parties that want to run our lives from Washington. We need to stop being a Washington centered country and allow more local government control and personal Freedom.

Good morning Gene. I couldn't disagree with you more. When did we decide to redo the election, repeal a law by attaching it to funding our government or decide our view is more correct than the people who were elected by a majority. You are a good guy but this is a bad idea. "I know we have a contract to sell with you, and we appreciate your efforts in bringing us a buyer, but we have decided, we are not happy with our agreement, and we won't be honoring it." I suspect you would find that offensive, so I suggest you are only looking at a portion of this issue. I don't care if you like Obamacare or not, the budget is not Obaomacare and should be allowed to be viewed on it's own: otherwise there will be be full faith and confidence in our government.

Kathy - very little

Sheila - There is so much here to point out.  Let's assume that the entire concept is constitutional (which I question) and go from there:

  1. The President himself has made at least 5 changes to Obamacare without the approval of Congress - This is against the law.

  2. Withholding funds is not only Constitutional but has been done many times before to bring an end to un popular programs.

  3. Elections do have consequences - Republicans won the house.  They control spending.  We won't even go into the manipulation of the IRS and government by the Obama Administration to steal the presidential election.

  4. My main point was that the shut down being manipulated in a way that is more expensive than no shut down to punish the American People.  That my rights as a Citizen do not flow from government.  Government cannot and should not try to take away my rights to enjoy the open air common property of the people to punish us for not going along with them.

Gene, I do agree with you last point but that's it. We are both busy, so we can agree to disagree. Sheila

I have heard the agreement of why Obamacare is good for us. I'm sorry, but so little of the arguments make any good sense. It must be in the water or should I say Kool-Aid.

Sheila - You are one of the nicest liberals I know.

Joe - It does not even help the poor - which was exactly what it was supposed to do.  All it does is help people that want to control our lives.

Vindictive is all that describes this administration. The really sad thing is the MSM or LSM is letting them get away with it. Can you imagine the outrage if Bush had WWII and Vietnam veterans arrested?

And we know it is vindictive because the vets were arrested for violating the law while illegals were given permission to protest on public ground. They are illegal and thus law breakers. Why weren't they being arrested? Because they are future Democrat voters.

Keep it shut down. I think the republican leadership may luck into a break with the fiasco 0bamacare is turning out to be. Even without reporting from the LSM (Lame Street Media) the word is getting out the the ACA should be renamed the Unaffordable Care Act.

Obama has continual broken the law by handing out free waivers or modifications to the ACA. As long as his buddies, donors and friends benefit then a waiver or law change is headed their way. If it is the Law of the Land" as the LSM keeps saying, why is 0bama able to change it?

Great Post , The point is we have a Constitution and the House of Representatives holds the purse strings to the government which most liberals forget. This comes full circle as most of us in business know if you cannot afford something to cannot have it. This current administration does not even have a budget in place.Could you run your business or house hold without one?

Just another politicial ploy to distract from runaway government taxes and regulations.  Now that the Obamacare rollout is well underway and people are seeing the prices and getting their cancellation notices, the Obamacare is really showing its true colors.  It might just collapse upon itself within the next few months.

Rob,

I have often been concerned this country might fall into a violent internal conflict.  But I think thay many parts of the Fed might just collapse under its own weight.
