The Shut Down, Obamacare, and What is a Country?
I am perturbed by the Shut Down, but I do not like Obama Care and think it is a violation of the Constitution. I hope they unplug it soon.
I do not like the Government Shut Down, but see it as a legitimate tool for both sides to use in negotiating their position. It certainly draws people's attention to what is going on. Both sides then have to explain their position to justify the pain it is bringing to the people in this country. I think the Republicans are wise to fund everything but Obamacare. I think the Democrats must cringe when they explain not letting young children get cancer treatment and other such foolish moves; although it is certainly their legal right to deny services to needy people.
I find it curious how the government views what is critical and what is not. Apparently Military Golf Courses around the country are critical to keep open. But the PX for soldiers to buy food and household items are not. The one thing that seems to roll on (well more like stumble) is Obamacare.
The real outrage is the punitive attitude toward the American People by shutting down certain things like the WWII Memorial, make it hard for people to pull over and take pictures of Mount Rushmore, shutting down parts of the ocean to fishermen in Florida.
Now these acts actually cost more to enforce than to just leave the item open. The WWII Memorial is open air off the sidewalk, accessible 24/7/365 staffed or not. I thought the National Parks were self supporting? A man in the Blue Ridge Mountain rents space on Federal land to run his restaurant, although the road through the park is open Rangers have surrounded his establishment to stop people from coming in to it.
I understand that loans and other essential service may be delayed due to the shut down. I also see leftist groups that support the President have plenty of access to protest on public property.
These latter parts of the Shut Down reflect an interesting concept of Government – That people and their rights flow from the Government. We are not a Nation because of a government. We are a Nation of People that set up a Government to help manage some limited issues. To them our rights as a people flow from the government. This is a sad state of affairs. Does a lack of Government mean we should not be able to see that which belongs to all of us (like Mount Rushmore) – that we do not have rights. No it does not – our rights flow from God. No man can tell me not to look up and see the Natural beauty owned by all of us. No government should be able to shut down a proper legal business with a contract to be on government land – that does not interfere with this shut down.
During this Shut Down we should consider how many of these “Non-essential workers” are really non-essential and should be let go. We should also look at how much is dependent upon the Federal Government and move to free people from having to depend on the Federal Government for these things.
I love my country and I believe that God has given us a wise Constitution – I believe our President is a wanna be Tyrant – but he is not the only one. There are too many in both parties that want to run our lives from Washington. We need to stop being a Washington centered country and allow more local government control and personal Freedom.
