When I read the "Who would you like to meet" challenge I thought "There's no way I could choose just three."
First, I'd love to meet all the members I've written for - we've had some interesting telephone conversations and I'd love to continue those conversations in person.
But then there's Kay Faulk - a fellow real estate copywriter. I don't even remember how we first got acquainted, but it was through Active Rain.
Since then we've exchanged dozens of emails and had several long telephone conversations. We know about each other's friends, families, and history. We share the good news - and the sad or scary news as well.
And we share our work. When either of us gets "stuck" on a project we know we can holler for help. Sometimes another set of eyes is just what it takes to get back on track. So occasionally we make suggestions or do a little editing - and if one of us has a difficult client, we talk it over.
For me, living in a community where no one even knows what the word "copywriter" means, it's wonderful to have someone to talk with who understands what I do for a living. The "guys" here in my neighborhood try, but all they really have figured out is that I spend all day with the computer and that I "write stuff." They have no idea how frustrating it is to hit a day when the words simply don't flow.
Kay is in a similar situation, so we act as each other's encouragement and cheering sections.
So while I'm in North Idaho and Kay is in Arkansas, and we've never met, we've become close friends. Neither of us loves to travel, so meeting is unlikely.
But you never know. Maybe one of these days...
