SUPER MOM...NOT!

Being a full time mom and a full time office manager of a real estate firm as well as a broker associate, I find that my day consists of balance and time management.   I always have to stay a day a head of myself.  So yesterday I was planning for today and today I am planning for tommorrow. I need to make sure that all my bases are covered at home as well as at work.

On a typical day at work you might find me thinking about: Supermom

  • Who is picking up my kids?  Or how is my oldest going to get home from school?
  • What tests, homework or projects are due and when?
  • I need to spend more time at home.
  • Are the uniforms washed and ready for school?
  • Do I have lunches and juices?
  • What are we having for dinner?

I have to remember to plan and I plan to remember everything!

While I am at home I think of things like:

  • Did the attorney send out the contracts?
  • Did the buyers/sellers sign the contracts?
  • Did I over talk at the listing appointment?
  • Did I send out post cards for the closed sales?
  • How can I generate MORE business?
  • I need to spend more time working on this.. or that.

Today, as I thought I had all my bases covered I realized I was caught in a pickle!  The morning started out that my oldest was going to walk home from school (8 blocks), he is suppose to CALL me from my house phone (OK, paranoid italian mother, what can I say?).  My youngest was going to after school with his pokemon cards in tow.  We had this all set to go or so I thought so.  At 2:30, I get a call from my house line from my YOUNGEST son, telling me that he is home with his older brother.  WHAT?  HUH??  "Nick, Put Peter on the PHONE NOW". (panick, breathe, breathe).

After discussing this situation with my oldest son he informs me that my father in law picked them up from school, because it was too cold to walk home.  (I agree).  He continues to tell me that he is old enough to watch his brother.  He is going to be 14 - trust him he says.  (this is coming from a kid who LOVES to hear his younger brother squeal for mercy, day in and day out).

"Let me do this, Mom".

So - my plans did not work out well for me today, but maybe they will .. I am wondering who will still be alive when I get home.

I'm sure everything was alright....that's a HUGE step for you 14 year old...I'm sure you are proud!  I can relate like you wouldn't believe.  I have 3 boys (12,10 and 2), work from home with my husband and we are always coordinating dentist and doctor's appointments, school pick up, baseball and soccer games, lunches.....and all the fun emergencies that go along with having kids.  You're doing a great job Christine, keep it up.
