Finding a Nest for Everyone's Home

Do you ever use a blend of art and antiques when decorating your home? Looking for a shop with both?  While touring Richmond, VA, you may find Nest is the place for you!  After visiting several times, I'm amazed at the variety of interesting items---from handmade jewelry, household decor items, furniture, original art, and much more.

Owners Mark Robertson and Marcelo Outeiro officially opened in their present location on April 17, 2013, after spending about six months at the West End Antiques Mall.  Having a name that arose from love of things inside and outside the home, Nest attracts a good mix from the community.

Both say they chose their current location because they love the neighborhood and have been amazed at the collective amount of artistic talent present in the Woodland Heights and Forest Hill neighborhoods.

"For us, it's all about the mix", Robertson says.  There are lots of antiques stores and art galleries in Richmond, and Nest does a good job of combining them both.

Walking into the shop, I was amazed at the variety of quality items available.  The variety frequently changes, and some harder to find items are frequently replaced with more items.

Mark Robertson finds Nest to be a labor of love.  The Nest sign is very inviting.

Mark Robertson stands proudly by handmade jewelry display.  Nest sign on front porch incorporates an antique.

The location of Nest is very near the corner where Semmes and Forest Hill avenues meet.  As a visitor, I found the store represented the merging of two neighborhoods of sorts.

"We are officially part of Woodland Heights," Robertson says.  "As a business we actually prefer the 'Hills and Heights' moniker.  Both neighborhoods overlap in so many ways that we are all essentially one big family."

Art by Paul Teeples is currently on display.    Furniture items on front porch of Nest

Current art on display is by Paul Teeples.                       Some antique furniture sits on covered porch at Nest.
