Legend has it that there are Ghosts of the Great Lakes.  They were shipwrecked and lost long ago and come back the week before Halloween to haunt those who don't believe in them.  The Winnetka Park District website includes:

"Travel the ghastly shipwrecked shores and experience the eeriness of Lake Michigan. Visit the Ghostly Graveyard of past sailors and take a wicked walk along the Trail of Terror. Enter the Haunted boathouse (at your own risk), and expect hair-raising chills and thrills. The brave souls that dare to take this journey then continue to be spooked along the Shipwreck Shores of Lloyd Beach."

Friday night's activities are designated as "Family Friendly" - please be aware that very young children may still be frightened.  There will still be props and sound effects, but it's not designed to scare children.  This event is free.
