West Orange High School’s Special Homecoming King and Queen

I’ve written a ton of blog posts over the years- some good, some bad and many that have fallen in between.  Hard to think of a more heart-warming story to post about than this one, though.  When I heard about this yesterday, the one thought that kept going through my head was that “those kids get it- they get it.”

It’d be easy for this story to blow over in a day or so.  While many other stories about shutdowns and deaths abound (and there are surely some things we need to get fixed in Washington and elsewhere), let’s also take note of what the West Orange High School student body did in selecting Travjuan “Bubba” Hunter and Semone Adkins as their homecoming king and queen.

West Orange High School‘s kids picked the most popular folks in their school.  They decided to put crowns on the heads of the folks with the most infectious smiles you’ll ever see.  And they said decided to recognize Bubba and Semone- not for the Down syndrome they have, but for the human beings they are.

Yep, those West Orange kids get it.

Congratulations, Bubba and Semone!  And congratulations, West Orange High School Class of 2014- may you all remember this weekend for a long, long time.
