Parade of Homes in Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties 2013
Last weekend, Donna and I visited Parade Homes in Orange and Chatham counties that were clustered together in Winmore and Briar Chapel subdivisions first, then other homes that would be interesting for us.
How do you judge a Parade Home?
After many solo visits and with Donna to open homes, I’ve determined that my taste and hers are different, and that she has a better feel for homes and flow and decorations than I do.
As a result, when visiting homes, I with hold my rankings for a few minutes until I get a read on The W.W.Factor.
That is, The Wife Wow Factor….let me explain. When we bought the house we are in now, and one other property, when Donna walked in the house, within minutes she said “this is it.” These words are not uttered lightly or often.
Though this method may sound unscientific, the validity is confirmed by the fact that two homes Donna had this response to won their categories in the 2013 Parade of Homes.
Winmore Parade of Homes
Closest trip was Winmore in Chapel Hill which I visited solo.
The Griffith, (O5) on 208 Della Street, Chapel Hill by Kovens Construction had a nice open layout. Turns out this homewas a Catagory #9 Winner in the $482,000.00-$518,000.00 range.
Briar Chapel Parade of Homes
Briar Chapel was easy to visit because there were 10 homes. I’m pretty sure we saw every one of them, but I stopped counting.
The Home that absolutely won The W.W. Factor was C17 The “Hadley A” by Drees Homes on 293 Dark Forest Drive, Chapel Hill.
The first floor was very open and liveable with kitchen, family room,
screened in deck, and sun room all within easy view and living.
The stagings were the best of any of the homes we saw that day.
The Hadley also won the Gold in Catagory #8, homes from $450,000- $455,000.
The Villa Camellia II (C23), on 23 Heatherwood Dr., Chapel Hill by M/I Homes was a 2,000 sq ft home with a good flow. We really liked the kitchen marble used on the island and the back splash tiles. This could be a good downsizing home or first home.
Pittsboro and Chatham County Parade of Homes
After Briar Chapel, we headed towards Pittsboro to C9, The Goodwell
by Garman Homes on 67 Coley Court, Pittsboro, NC.
As we turned in the neighborhood we realized we had been here last
year as well.
The location is in the country. No road noise. Low taxes. A great layout and flow, different from the Hadley A, and still very liveable. The kitchen marble counter top and tile back splashes were very distinct.
This home won Silver in Catagory #7.
Durham Parade of Homes
On Saturday October 13, 2013 we headed out to the Durham Parade Homes.
We started with the Drees Home (D6) on 4528 Farrington Road, Durham, and headed over to Colvard Farms.
Two beautiful million dollar homes on a street of million dollar homes.
The Modern Moxie by Loyd Builders was modern, open, light, windows abounding. Very interesting pool- it was called an infinity pool that flowed over the edge and re-circulated. Well worth visiting, even if you are thinking of down sizing. And it won the Gold.
The home that would have been interesting to see was not on the tour, but was on the same cul-desac. Beautiful porches, colors, and roof lines. You’ll recognize it.
Singleton Country Manor on 203 Swift Creek Crossing in the Hills at Southpoint
Next was Singleton Country Manor on 203 Swift Creek Crossing in the Hills at Southpoint. Built by by Toll Brothers. Nice neighborhood and home, but coming from Colvard Farm makes any smaller less expensive home unimpressive.
Heading out to the next home on the tour on Farrington Road we turned right instead of left, heading into Southpoint. Realizing that, we took an REI break and decided to head to down town Durham for a late lunch and early dinner.
