ImageIn the fairy tale about Snow White who was a princess that had an evil stepmother Queen who was always out to get her, there was this magic mirror. The Queen would always ask, "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" Unfortunately because Snow White was always around and was the hottie, the Queen became jealous. She plotted to kill Snow White with a poison apple but alas a Prince came along and saved the day, the Queen was done away with for her wicked ways, and the couple lived happily ever after. There were these seven dwarfs in the story as well to keep the story moving along with all their funny names.

I will get to the point of this post in a minute, but I was inspired by top Las Vegas Real Estate Specialist Arina Hanciulescu in one of her blogs. Arina is extraordinarily tuned into life and sensitive to the world. When you find these people around you, and they are more rare than common, pay attention to them. Why? Because in their observations of the world you can learn so very much. What Arina reminded me of was that the people that you encounter in your life are like live mirrors sent to you.

Arina 2Have you ever walked past a mirror? Now women know how this story goes really well. You catch yourself stopping. The hair is out of place. The jacket is not fitting quite right. Oh darn, you have a blemish on your cheek. You inspect yourself and swear you're not as pretty as you used to be. We are so hard on ourselves and on our external looks and beauty.

But then there are the other mirrors. Especially when you find the sensitive ones in your family, your friends, those buyers that REALTORS drive around with all the time, the co-workers, those people in your classes - they could be anywhere. They act as your human mirrors and pick up on stuff you weren't even aware of. Sometimes they correct your bad habits. Sometimes when we are too full of ourselves they bring us down a notch or two. But the nicest ones find your best qualities and tell you about them, even if you didn't know it yourself.

Some people come into our lives to reflect things we need to change. And if you're lucky, and I know I am, you'll have someone (like Arina) come along and highlight one's better qualities to glean from. Look for the people who are mirrors in your life. What are they telling you? Who are you reflecting back to them what you see?

They are around you. Just pay attention.

Gary - what a lovely tribute to Arina.  She is a lovely girl whom I met through AR.  Even though we live in the same city we've never had the opportunity to meet and do business together...I hope that will change in the future.

Beautiful post, Gary.

Our mirrors see the beauty in us even when we do not see it ourselves. I am grateful every day for the mirrors/dear friends and loved ones that I have in my life and I can only hope that I am reflecting back to them just how beautiful, rare and wonderful each is in their own special way.

I read Arina's tribute to you and it was very fitting and very true. I'm glad to see two such special people here in AR being such wonderful mirrors for one another.

Very nice post Gary - I read Arina's post about you as well. I believe you were the first associate who added me on AR.

Mary: You Vegas Active Rainers ought to get together some time and share your expertise. I always enjoy all your blogs and comments too.

Jo: I think the reason some people are such good mirrors to us is they see and hear the outside of us. Our perspective is from the inside projecting out.

Sharon: See, I was quick to find a good one like you to welcome aboard on AR. You've been great with your postings and comments. Everyone enjoys your sharing.

Gary--What inspirational words! There are many "mirrors" in our lives and we should take the time to pay attention to them.

Teri: You are right about "many" mirrors. Even for example on Active Rain. You could think of those commenting on your thoughts as mirrors. Some people get incensed with the detracting comments and want to only focus on the positive comments. But they are just observations and opinions. Not really a right or wrong. You the reader of what people say to you agree with it or say it is off base. That's why I wonder why people get so annoyed with a few strong disagreements with a point of view. It is just an opinion. My point is that some comments like ones you provide, enlighten us, give us an "ah hah" moment, and best of all maybe make us laugh and connect with another. Hey, we just might learn something we didn't know before.

Hi Gary,
I do not know Arina but I'm going to go find her as soon as I finish this comment.  Our mirrors are such an important part of our lives.  I am very blessed to have some wonderful mirrors in my life and I hope I am a good mirror for and to others.

Gary, Arina is a special person and I am crazy about her beautiful shepherd Sunset... You got to read that beautiful story if you haven't... You talked about people that come into our lives to reflect things we need to change.. We call those sandpaper people..They may be irritating as all heck, but they can really make us softer and smoother  if we allow it!

Cynthia: I agree that good mirrors are a blessing for us. Makes you wonder how they enter our lives doesn't it?

Ginger: Yes I read earlier her story about Sunset, the German Shepherd. I very much like your description of sandpaper and how it polishes us. In Texas we call that a burr under your saddle. Until you address it the pain in the butt remains. Mirrors can be persistent with us in helping us to grow and change.

Gary, this is wonderful.  It is so true that if we are truly honest with ourselves we need to see us as others we respect see us; whether it be fellow Realtors, family etc.  I know I need to work to constantly be a better person!

Gary,  It's so true how we reflect off of others...and they off of us.  if we just have an open-enough mind to acknowledge and be willing to change if necessary.  Thanks for the post!  Now I have to run go look in the mirror!

Don: You are right. We have to weigh the mirror's comments and see if we agree with it. If what they say is true, and we are wise, we make the changes or feel good with the compliments that someone saw in us. Don't crack the mirror Don : )

mouseGary...what a beautiful and insightful post. We all need the occasional pat on the back or loving criticizm to keep us on an even keel. But from caring sources it helps us feel cared for...

Gary, this was very good and insightful. I think we see ourselves in lots of people the good and the bad. It is heart warming when we have someone to reflect back too.

Missy: I have heard that too. That you can point something out in someone else, because good or bad, it is in you too.

Liz: People will tell you good things that will surprise you sometimes and other things that are true that maybe you don't want to hear, but are good for you. The negative opinionated stuff you just have to let roll off you like water off a duck's back. Now get out of that funk, and enjoy today. You deserve it : )

Wow!  This is wonderful.  I do have mirrors in my life and continually pick me up with comments about how funny I am, or how they like the sound of my laugh.  That's why I love to go to my gym because I have some friends there that do that for me almost without fail, every time I'm there.  My office mates do it too.  I really love Arina and I recognized her as a kind soul right away.  I should have known you would too.  It's a small world and getting smaller by the minute!

Susan: The way people are mirrors to you amazes me. You found them with some at the gym. I don't know if you have noticed this with your own postings or not, but you learn so much about yourself from what others write in the comments. That surprised me. It is very conversational.

Sharon: Those mirrors give you great insight into yourself. Things you maybe didn't think about before that moment.
