This is how the garden looks in October.
''The beauty of the "garden of water and fragrance"
(Suiho En) creates for the visitor a world of meditative calm
where it is possible to focus on the simple and beautiful things in nature,
and our lives.''
This Japanese Garden is a cultural showplace of Los Angeles. It was created by world renowned garden designer Dr. Koichi Dawana. In designing Suiho-en, he balanced the positive and negative forces, Yin and Yang, with skillful blending of traditional Japanese garden design and modern Western Architecture.
This special place is unique in that it incorporates three classical designs:
a dry karensansui,
a wet garden with promenade chisen,
and an authentic tea ceremony garden incorporating a 4.5 tatami mat tea room.
They say that the real appreciation and understanding of the traditional Japanese garden is complex and difficult. The visual entities which may appear as a design in the Western sense of forms, textures, and colors are less important than the invisible philosophical, religious, and symbolic elements. This is shown clearly when we examine the derivation and importance of the key elements present, in some form, in almost every Japanese garden.
These elements include water, islands of stones, plants, and garden accessories.
How gorgeous, isn't it? Did you notice that little fly?
If you are in Lake Balboa, I hope you can visit this beautiful place.
