AR Contest: Home is where Contentment is...

This month, October 2013, Active Rain launched "There's No Place Like Home" contest... It's a great opportunity to share my heart about what my home means to me, as I try to house so many homes for my clients.

What I learn about my home is a rather unique perspective. Sure, my home houses the most important treasures I've accumulated this side of heaven. And my "home body" personality, it's such a hot button for me.

I love my home because this is where I'm reminded of contentment EVERYDAY. I help many clients find the perfect property for them to call home. Many of which are bigger and nicer than mine. Much bigger and certainly much nicer. I sell alot of properties in the higher price point than my own.

Most realtors who earn the income I do tend to live in a home at least 1.5 - 2 times my value. Their homes are BEAUTIFUL, some jaw dropping. Don't get me wrong, I do get house fever like normal people. In fact, last November, my house fever was so severe, I tried to convince my house that we can and deserve a much better home.

Married to a strong leader who doesn't believe in debt, who believes in growing the business slowly, my husband made me realize that "NOW" is not the time. He rather we do this slowly and he prefers to spend our additional resources in additional investments to help us create additional income. So that when we do get into the more expensive home, that the additional cost of living is paid for by our investments. It's no longer us having to work harder for it.

I look around my home. I told my husband, "But I do want a nicer home......" So his compromise was that we spent $35,000 last year to remodel our home. We put in EVERYTHING I WANT in a home except that we didn't move house.

I must say, my house may be one of the nicest in its price point.

When I get up in the mornings at 3, I look around and thank the Heavens for giving me a husband who will take care of his family, not jeapordize our finances to be like the Jones and I see contentment ALL AROUND. Everything that we own in the house is ALL ours. Everything paid for in cash. Nothing financed, nothing owed.

I think not owing anything on my house would make me love it more too Loreena.  Right now I'm working to pay off the office. (higher interest rate than my home) then I'll move on to paying for the house.  I only plan to move one more time and we plan to build our dream home.  We're constantly tweeking the plans when I find something I like.

Hi Loreena. It's great that you have a wonderful husband who is practical. It's great to be out of debt thus out of enslavement.

It doesn't matter what any realtor, friend or relative has...it only matters that you love the house you call home.

Hi Loreena - I think you two make a great team. A very smart person once said that if you only borrow money for things that appreciate, it will pave your road to wealth.

Loreena, you and your husband are wise people, planning and saving for the future rather than buying a house that maximizes what the bank is willing to loan like so many others do.  Much better to invest the extra money in good investments.
