A personal detour in the Rain

By
Real Estate Agent with Falcon Property Company

I've been out of the ActiveRain loop for a while. I LOVE it in the Rain. Some of my dearest friendships were formed here. When the real estate Thunder Snowmarket slowed down for me last year, I decided to write a novel. Some might think that as a Realtor of 20+ years, something real estate related might have been appropriate. Nah, at the suggestion of a good friend on AR, I decided to write a steamy romance novel  (Thunder Snow) That took off so well that I have been busy working on the second novel which is scheduled for publication next month. Needless to say, while I am still very active in the real estate market, I'm very much enjoying my 'side job' right now

What brings me to want to touch base today is the realization that it has been two years since I first shared my story about my eldest daughter's Life Day. The writing of that article changed me, and went a long way to changing my outlook on life and the way I interact with people. In the 37 previous years, I had been ashamed and embarrassed to share our story. Because of the love and affection that I received here on ActiveRain when I first wrote it, I realized that we all have our own stories, and the retelling can help those around us who think they are all alone, or that no one else could possibly understand what they are going through. I have heard from many people that they found strength and a new perspective to face their own frightening situations because of it, and a baby who is alive because of it.

So I wanted to stop by and say THANK YOU. You are all still family. I still check in almost daily and read your posts. I don't comment much because right now my little fingers are frantically working at pounding out Book Two, something that would never have happened without the love and encouragement from the close bonds formed here on ActiveRain. October 17th comes and goes each year, and I'm not getting any younger. I wanted to say - I love you guys.

SIDE NOTE: Because THUNDER SNOW ( Or better yet, GIVE a FREE copy to everyone you know! Thank you, my friends, for your AMAZING support!!!

Read the life day story again and remembered it after I read it.  People think they are keeping a secret, but hurt and pain always have a way of coming out.  I am glad you fast up to things early.

Thanks so much, Robert. Appreciate.

You are spot on, Gene. Secrets have a way of coming out.

Thanks very much, Shannon. It is a sweet romance - quick read :) If you don't like romances, you probably won't like this one LOL

Thank you, Lisa! It's an afternoon escape romance :) and the reviews have been wonderful. I'm excited about them. NaNoWriMo - two years ago when I did it, it was 35,000 words total. This year it is 50,000. 2,000 words per day is a commitment, but I would encourage you to do it if you have a story to tell ;) It's a great motivator and helps to pace you. My #1 suggestion is DON'T EDIT as you write. Just write and write and write and write and write. When you're all done, you will edit a lot, so don't bother now. If something comes to mind that will fit in somewhere, have a tablet or word doc to add that idea during edit. Do not waste your time in the first draft. THEN you have a chance of getting done. My #2 suggestion is make a BASIC outline before you start so you at least know where you're heading. Not too detailed, just so you can get back on track if you derail.

Have not read Mimi, but is the title from the effect we used to see in Baltimore were it would thunder in real hard snowstorms?

I hope the time was at least productive, Roland. Thank you very much.

That's right, Bob. One of my favorite phenomenons - Thunder snow. The book is set in a mountain town, and the idea worked right into the storyline.

Mimi - Congratulations on writing a book.  I'm going to try my hand at it myself this winter - a combination memoir/reflections on the past few years of my husband's terminal illness.  I hope you have much success with your book and your writing career!
