Great (and very timely) info from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors site - pass the link below to any of your customers getting ready to do those home improvements ('tis the season, of course...)

Scammers prey on the lack of knowledge that most consumers have when it comes to home improvements - help your clients (and yourselves) by showing them where to get the information in your markets.

why is it always so hard to find good contractors...reliable and that actually want to work?

Naoma,

Thanks for the great question!  I think that question can be asked of any industry (certainly the ones I have been in before I started my business).  As you know, one of the most emotional purchases a person can make is the decision to buy a home - people rekindle this emotion when they start to look for contractors.  As with other industries, some people are great at the technical aspect of the job but lack the people skills to complete the package.  Like any profession, there are good contractors and bad contractors.  A great place to start is your friends - ask them to see if they have had any similar work done, and if so, who did they use.  Then check the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints.  If a contractor cannot (or will not) provide referrals, keep looking!

My full soap box answer would have taken days to write, but I hope this helps a little.  There are good ones out there, you just have to find them!  Also another note, depending on the trade, good contractors don't necessarily advertise but work off referrals and word of mouth.  They are usually VERY busy, and successful because of the work ethic and customer service they bring to every project.
