With a walk score of 71 East Rock is the 11th most walkable neighborhood in New Haven. It's not surprising to see a a large percentage of the over 9,000 people who live here walking or biking to the Orange Street Deli & Grocery, P & M Orange Street Market or Nica's Market for a quick bite to eat or to pick up some groceries.

With its close proximity to downtown New Haven and the Yale University campus, East Rock is home to a large number of Yale graduates, students, faculty and staff along with many other professionals and families. There is also a great resource of educational schools from Pre-K to high school in East Rock itself and nearby that include Calvin Hill Day Care Center, Leila Day Nursery, New Haven Academy, Worthington Hooker, Foote School, St. Thomas Day School and Wilbur Cross High School.

For the outdoor enthusiasts Edgerton Park is a great destination for a relaxing stroll or walking the dog. Wilbur Cross High School has tennis courts and a track field and East Rock Park is a wonderful spot for a picnic, hiking or for playing basketball, soccer or football.
