Yesterday, I wrote a post about a special training class I am planning to have in a couple of weeks. After a few comments received, it dawned on me, "Why not get someone like Brad Andersohn in to teach the class"?  I was really only dreaming because if you follow what's going on here on Activerain, Brad is one of the best!

Brad responded to my blog post and said that he just might can make it happen! I e-mailed Bob Stewart with Activerain about a trainer being available and he told me they have been talking about this very thing and wondered if there would be any interest for field training?

So, is there any interest out there for a Activerain trainer coming to your office to teach one on 5-20? The trainer could use a power point presentation while the agents sit with wireless notebooks logged into Activerain!

In my opinion, this would have the potential to jumpstart anyone's blogging knowledge by several months! Personally, I have been blogging for almost 4 years but only about 6 months here in the "rain". I am just now starting to feel comfortable with all the dynamics of posting here.

How long did it take you to learn how to complete your profile insuring you made it "Google friendly". How long did it take you to learn about titles tags, cloud tags, keywords, posting to localism, entering pictures and sizing them correctly, putting in links, etc? This list could go on and on!

I am sure the broker would incur some expense to bring in a trainer but perhaps the broker could let the agents help offset part of this. My guess would be somewhere around $500 but that is only a guess!

Please comment on this post and let Bob Stewart know if there is any interest in Activerain starting up a field training program! Bob, as for me I am sold on the idea and I am in discussions right now with my trainer to see about bringing in a "special Activerain field trainer". Is there anyone close to Dyersburg,Tennessee(NW Tenn) that would also be interested in coming to a training session with Brad Andersohn doing the teaching?

I think that it would be great for our office to have Brad or a field trainer from Active Rain talk about the importance of blogging.

Matthew,

Blogging is gets lots of publicity from all the real estate publications. Maybe get the field trainer in to get agents comfortable blogging on Activerain platform!

As soon as you go from the virtual realm to a one with an actual person you've changed the dimension of the service. Keep it virtual.

Mike,

The idea would be that ActiveRain would pay for the trainer..........the broker would pay for the travel expenses. A plane ticket and one night hotel. I would think in most markets with advanced planning, it could be done for $500-$700.

I'm interested in what people have to say........

I think it might be better (at least in my area) to work it with the local MLS association/Association of Realtors.  Personally, I'd love to go to a training session, but I know most of my office wouldn't, so it wouldn't be "worth" it for my broker to fly someone in.  However, if it was a city-wide thing and the trainer was here for a day doing a morning and afternoon class through the local Association of Realtors, it'd probably be much better attended and better received, and have a wider audience than going it each office alone.

HTH.  If anyone does one near/in Kansas, let me know, i'd love to attend!!

Jay and I have taught blogging classes in NH and the interest is definitly there. We did a 3 hour Blogging 101 and with the different skill levels of the agents...it was pretty interesting.

I'll be curious to see how the comments unfold.

A one-day event would certainly spark interest, but for agents and offices to really get value, there has to be consistent follow-up and continued training. Blogging and social networking are 'learn by doing' activities that require at least 6 months of increasing participation in order to be worthwhile.

Rather than traveling, how about developing a series of 15-30 minute webinars that any local board or ActiveRain member could use to teach blogging in their market area? Spread out over 8-12 sessions, this would give participants a chance to build their blogs and blogging skills as well as feed off the enthusiasm of each other.

Thank-you all for your comments. John and Steve you may have a valid point in that this could be done without travelling to the actual training site. But, for many of the "more experienced agents" a real in- person trainer might be just the ticket!

My broker and I were talking about me teaching a brief class on ActiveRain and a separate one on blogging.  Having a real trainer would certainly be better.  The only thing I would add is getting Realtors to attend training classes is like herding cats.  They should really want to go but I'm not sure how successful brokers will be at getting attendance UNLESS they have some concrete evidence that it will increase their business.

I would support a series of 1-hour webinars, with hands on training for a limited class size.  I disagree about the concept of "celebrity" personal appearances because that would be a one-shot event, whereas a series of webinars could break things down to a learnable volume of information that could be put into practice by users before they move on, and then doing it again until the series is complete.  I guess that approach comes from training and mentoring agents for so many years, as well as my own experience with learning through so many webinars in the past year or so.   This approach would also keep the expenses down for all parties, from ActiveRain to brokers and agents.

Diane,

That may be the reason for letting agents cover part of the cost. If they have nothing invested they could just walk away (like 100% sub prime financing) so I believe agents need to invest something into this training.

Margaret, I appreciate your comments and believe you have a great idea!

After a year on Active Rain, I still feel like I learn something new at least every week.  I think there would be great interest.  Bob, I remember you asking earlier this year about places we would like to see AR reps attend, but I couldn' find the post - any chance you guys are considering RE Tech South in Atlanta at the end of the month?

Actually, we've been discussing ways to step-up our involvement with our membership. Bob and I have been talking about the possibility of doing some regional "Day in the Rain' networking/training sessions across the country, perhaps in conjunction with corporate/state association events. This would be a great opportunity for you to invite your close associates, business partners, office agents, etc..

I would love some form of training to help me navigate my way through AR.  I was invited to join by one of my co-workers and we are all learning things from each every day, but we still have a lot to learn and I am sure that I am not the only one that would be interested in something like this.  I like the idea that a few people mentioned about the webinars.  It seems like that would be very accessible.  I look forward to seeing this develop.  Thanks.

The answer is absolutely YES and if Active Rain hires anyone BUT Brad Andersohn, they are CRAZY! I have had the good fortune of being in the same market area as Brad have regularly called him to ask for his expertise regarding internet technologies and marketing. He is able to "talk tech" without being too techy for the uninitiated or semi-initiated and very obviously can hold his own with the true techies. The only problem with Brad (if it can be labelled such) is that he always gives me so many MORE ideas that my to-do list never shortens!

Mike, I feel like this would be a great idea. It is scary at first to just out there and start bloging. It took a lot of pushing from you for me to try this. I feel like more agents would become involve with a little hands on demonstration. I believe that Activerain is the best thing that I have tried since Dr. Pepper 50 years ago today.

1 - Small groups are much better than large ones, particularly because of the different levels of awareness and knowledge about blogging.

2 - the day before or after a state conference is a good idea - preferably close to a "general" day rather than before a few days of just committee meetings.

3 - rather than webinars, which mean we have to be in a place at a specific time, what about digital broadcasts of some kind that we can view on Active Rain whenever we want?

4 - Of course I prefer in person, but since that won't help most of the members, videos would be good.

6:15pm • #25

Mike - I am sincerely honored, touched, and flattered by your post today.  Thanks for all your compliments and kudos here.  I truly have enjoyed helping and contributing to other Active Rain members, as many of them have contributed soooo much to me in return.

The opportunity to come meet with you in person and help train others in your office would be an honor.  The chance to be there as a "representative" of Active Rain would be more than a privilege and honor, it would be a Blessing.

I will start packing :-) and wait to hear back from you, Bob, and Jonathan as to all the details!  Maybe this would be a good place to see how my new signature would look! (Gigantic Smile) :-)

He will already be "somewhere"  training so why not take advantage of the location and have some activerainers that are interested get some hands on training from him to actually be a trainer??

Very few people in my community have taken an interest in blogging, but I do go to Seattle often so if training were held there, I'd love to attend.  Of course, an office in Seattle would have to let me :-)  Just remember it takes a few weeks notice to get a decent deal on a plane ticket.

Thank-you all for your comments and advice. I believe the consensus is for those not very tech savvy they prefer a hands on teacher. For those who already have it all together they would prefer webinars or videos.

I personally prefer the hands on approach and hope to get Brad in here in a few short weeks!

Mike: If people would just realize the power of Active Rain and Localism, we would turn the page on negative attitudes of some of our realtors in every state and city.

If consumers don't know you exists, they can never call you.

People want realtors who know real estate, and how better to show forth your knowledge than blogging.

Shall we call it blogging for dollars?

Hey Mike!  It would be so nice if you really COULD get Brad  to come in and teach every one how to properly post to localism so that google picks it up.

I have been in the rain for three weeks, but I have only been "playing" because I don't really have the KNOW HOW yet!

Hey!  If he'll come I will make the effort and make the trip there just to learn HOW to do it effectively. It is that important. Let me know if it works out, and if it does, count me in!  Vickie

It has been an awesome pleasure to know Brad and to be inspired by him.  I guarantee that there is no way I would have joined the "rain" if I had not met him face to face. Active Rain should jump on the chance to send Brad out for 6 months or so all over the country.  If AR were to pay his way to do a half hour free class to local offices, he easily would be able to recruit people to an all day seminar that would be scheduled for the next month.  Brad will be hired soon by someone and who better than AR to try to snag him first.

I can't tell you how inspirational it is to just have lunch with the guy.  It IS true that there is no time in the day to implement all of his ideas.  And if you think his ideas are the same as those you hear from the others, you are wrong.

When you go to the seminars of the BIG GUYS, you are hearing about stuff that worked for someone, somewhere a year ago.  Brad has given me ideas on how to adapt to the market and has really made me think.  I just purchased a web cam because of him.  I never would have blogged, and I never would have purchase a web cam and I never would have felt the new enthusiasm I feel for real estate if Brad were not referred to me.

When I talk to a Realtor or Lender I tell them, "I am going to have you talk to Brad."

As Brad travels the country giving seminars, he of course can be video taped and accessed via the AR website.  So those who do not want to leave the comfort of their office can enjoy him.  Afterwards, they will demand that he comes to their town.  This could be big for AR
