Rambutan - Have you ever eaten one?

We were at the Wagon Wheel flea market this morning and the place is full of Asian fruit and vegetables. It is the favorite market for hundreds of Asians that live here in Pinellas County Florida and a wonderful destination to find unusual things to take home and try! It was here that I found the Rambutan. I asked the vendor that was selling them what they taste like and he said the Lychee nut.

Since I love lychee nuts, I purchased some of these rambutan fruits. You pop them open similar to the lychee nut and the fruit is also similar only I find the lychee nut just a little bit sweeter. After trying the rambutan today, I know I will be back to get more next Sunday!

They look like a hairy strawberry. I don"t think I have had lychee nuts so please describe what they taste like.

I would have guessed Rambutan is the name of an ancient city. Boy was I off! The fruit looks like a strawberry with hair growing on it. I've never heard of a lyhcee either. So today, I have to say you taught me more than anyone else today!
