Despite a somewhat high unemployment rate in North Carolina, personal-finance website Nerdwallet.com says the economies in the Tar Heel State are on the rise.

On Monday, Nerdwallet released its list of the best places in the state for job-seekers, and it includes five Charlotte-area towns.

To compile the list, NerdWallet analyzed 46 North Carolina cities and towns using four metrics: population growth from 2009 through 2012, median household income, median monthly homeowner costs and unemployment rates. The four metrics were combined to generate an overall score. Only places with a population greater than 25,000 were considered.

Topping the list is Indian Trail, located just southeast of Charlotte. Mooresville came in at No. 5, followed by Huntersville at No. 6 and Concord and Cornelius at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.
