"The Jersey Shore when a Touch of Winter Arrives" ... Ocean City, New Jersey

The cold weather coming across the middle of the United States appears to be arriving day-by-day as the temps begin to fall (47 degrees this morning).  But it has been such a lovely October (warm and sunny), that we haven't turned on the heat as yet.  It's a new house and well-insulated ... haven't even needed the gas fireplace in the living room as yet.   But not far off.

A lot of changes arrive with the weather adjustment when you live on a barrier island ... and a shore point along the Jersey Shore.  As mentioned in earlier blogs, driving around Ocean City is now a piece of cake ... maybe could do it somewhat blind-folded, because so many owners and most rental tenants are no longer here.  Driving around after 6:00 or 7:00 pm, and there is almost no one on the road.

The meter heads are gone from all of the parking meters ... no meter payments until spring.  There are really no crowds when one goes out for a downtown lunch these days.  Weekends are a bit busier, but even that will get much slower as we move into winter mode.  We tend to wait until the final hour before putting away the garden furniture and the lovely umbrellas that block the sun.  We still have three out front trying to hold back the colder weather.   But I did get a good jump on the seven screen doors that I take off, clean, and put away for the winter.  I did it during some warmer weather ... much more pleasant to do during that time.

Most downtown stores will hang around for the holiday business, but some close a day or two during the week days.  Summer hours and winter hours around here.   And many of our good friends are packing up for their travels south mostly to Florida ... so after 5pm most evenings, it's a quiet time of life for the two of us unless we seek those friends still around here, or take a night out, or have the very rare arrival of winter visits (unheard of here on the island).

Finally, the real estate business changes as well ... one more month of the "fall buying period" means a good bit more action with buyers and sellers ... but once Thanksgiving and December arrives, it's a major slowdown period until mid-to-late February, 2014.  It's a time to get reorganized, contact buyers and sellers, rental owners and tenants, catch a few sale listings floating by, and even take a nice winter vacation when the real estate business is at its slowest point of the year.

More to tell you ... but a good time to close this blog.  Stay warm (or cool) wherever you might be!!!
