Things to Do in Alameda: Otis Elementary School’s Halloween Carnival is on Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  I love this carnival, there is so much to do and you see everyone you know. There will be a children’s parade and costume contest.  And what would a carnival be without tasty  food including Halloween cupcakes.  What would a carnival be without carnival games?  Music and fun for the whole family make this event a must.  Free for the entire family at Otis School at Fillmore and High Streets.

Things to do in Alameda: Alameda South Shore Center and Off the Grid are back with more food trucks on Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the South Shore Center parking lot near Petco.  The trucks include Senor Sisig, Cupkates, Little Green Cyclo, Sanguchon, Seoul on Wheels, Fiveten Buerger, Hiyaa, We Sushi, Kinder’s Trust and my Shrimp Shack.

Things to do in Alameda: The USS Hornet is once again celebrating Halloween with its Monster Ball on Saturday, October 26 from 7:30 pm to midnight.  Come aboard to find out if the USS Hornet is really haunted and hear about the stories which sparked its haunted reputation.

A costume contest is part of the festivities which also included haunted tours of the ship, dancing and music provided by ZEBOP!, a Santana Tribute Band, and Cocktail Monkeys.  Ghoulish food and a cash bar will also be available.  Tickets are $28 for members, non-members $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Things to Do in Alameda: The annual Harvest Fest, on Sunday, October 27 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm is of those events where the phrase “so much to do, so little time” sums up my feelings.  It is sponsored by Temple Israel and the Community Center of Harbor Bay isle the event will take place at 3183 and 3195 Mecartney Road in Alameda.   The kiddies will be treated to a pumpkin patch to find that perfect pumpkin.  It is given that kids love to have their faces painted with pumpkins and scary ghosts so there will be face painting.  For the adults there will be 59 vendors offering vintage, custom and handmade and one of a kind gifts for sale.  Music, dancing and yoga are also on the agenda for the day.  You will even have an opportunity to meet those great guys and editors of the Alameda Sun, Dennis Evanosky and Eric J. Kos who will be signing their latest book, “San Francisco, Then and Now.”  Please call 510-522-9355 for more information.
