The Antelope Valley has a lot of cool stuff to see. Just last month SpaceShipTwo completed its second successful rocket-powered test flight over the skies of Mojave. Co-pilot, Mark Stucky, described the test flight as “Awesome” and said, “There’s no doubt you’re going somewhere,” referring to its rocket boost velocity.
It was the first time that the SSTwo had all mission phases in flight. After being dropped from its mothership, the WhiteKnightTwo, from 46,000 feet, the aircraft fired its rocket engines for 20 seconds, breaking the sound barrier, and then glided to a runway landing at Mojave Air & Space Port.
Upon re-entry, the planes rear wing “feathering” system, used to slow the plane, and worked as designed. Virgin Galactic, the owner of SpaceShipTwo, says that they are aiming for 6 paid passengers, commercial flight sometime in 2014.
