My Home is where I LIVE!

What do I love about my home? Simple…

My home is where I live! The emphasis is not on “I” in that sentence. No, I am not that self-centered. The emphasis is on “live”. Yes…I live there. I live with my wife and with memories of my two daughters having grown up in that house. It is where we have celebrated Christmas, New Years, birthdays, and many joyous get-togethers. Ours is the only house that our two granddaughters know when they think of Grama and Grampa’s house.

Clearly we have lived in the same house for quite some time. Why? Why not? We obviously like the house. We like the location…currently about equal distance from where our two daughters live. The location is close enough to all amenities that we enjoy…shopping, etc. It is a bit of a drive to my office but I work from home more than from my office. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area – have all my live – and I love it here. From our house it is easy enough to get anywhere in the Bay Area within a reasonable amount of time. It is also between the beaches of Santa Cruz and the mountains and ski slopes of Lake Tahoe – though much closer to the beaches.

Could we live somewhere else? Of course we could. We have seen many places where living would be enjoyable. The catch for us – and, I know, for many families – is just that…family. We would not move far away from our kids and our grandchildren. We spend lots of time with them and not being able to do so would leave a huge void. We would rather not have the challenge of making that adjustment. Our kids talk about moving from time to time. If they were to move, that might be a trigger for us. Who knows?

What do I love about my house? It is my HOME.

(By the way, the year on the sign is the year we got married.)

Beautifully written, John!  I agree, it's family that makes a house a home.  We have never been too far from our kids....always within a 20 min. drive.  Except for my youngest daughter who is the world traveller and tends to take off for 6-9 months at a time now and then.  She always returns though!  She's leaving again tonight, heading to Lake Tahoe for the Winter.  I'll miss her.

Ah…Lake Tahoe. I have done lots of skiing at areas around Lake Tahoe. That is one of the places that I know that I could live, Sharon.

John, it's the same for me.  I was born and raised in NYC and now live 19 miles from where I started.  My children and my grandchildren all live near by.  It's great never knowing who will pop in.  Thanks for posting to the contest.
